Hi! its been 5 months since I was diagnosed with UP, ive been asking questions in this group and its been really helpful, im starting seeing a pattern in my UP, its weird, so different from everything ive read and everyone ive spoken, Im perfectly normal like always BUT literally once a month i have one poop with mucus and blood, like just one time, just one day, and always in the 20s: 23th of april, 25th of may, 24th of june, 29th of july and now 24th of august, its like really really weird, i dont have anything to relate it with, no more stress, no more food, nothing, the rest of the time im perfectly ok, going to the toilet 2 times per day, everthing fine, color, consistency, etc, but then it comes this day, always in the morning, normal poop but with trasparent mucus with dark red blood contained inside, so now, my question, what the hell is going on? does it means im in a constant flare? or i have mini flares once a month? does anybody have any clue? im so calm and relaxed now with my up, and im thankful i have just this mini symptoms for now, but is annoying and confusing to think im in a remission anf then once a month see blood...

don't confuse the flare (the underlying inflammation) with the symptom (blood mucus)

you are in a constant flare the heats up and quiets down a bit.

what is being used to treat the UP?

the doctor said it was such a mild that he gave me 3g of oral mesalazine (forever) and enemas for one month (daily and i finished it a month ago), then in october a check up again and thats it for the moment

Mesalamine enemas? Did you taper them?
On maintenance?

I suggest you call, get another rx with refills.....and use them nightly, then when all is good, start the taper to eventually twice a week.

Do NOT wait till oct.

I wonder if it is a food intolerance? Considered making a food journal, what you eat and your symptoms the next morning.

I'm surprised as an UP patient, that you are not on a daily canasa suppository. It really is the most effective medication for UP. An enema goes further than what you really need for UP.

Doubt food intolerance.....do you have a fissure or hemmie?
And what are bms like during said bleeding?

I suggest you get to know your UC symptoms real intimately....
Took me years....but ive been at this a looooong time.
I do have a fissure and internal hemmie that bleeds.
Ask your doc to take an in-office look-see during that time since it has a schedule.

dont think is a hemmie, the bms are well formed, well coloured, painless, just 2x a day, just like any day, normal, like all my life, just with this mucus with blood inside, and its really really just one time at month, i ALWAYS CHECK and its always normal but one time a month, weird isnt it?

Flares are usually consistent, and not once a month thing thus the food intolerance thought. Could OP be under-treated?, Sure, I'd suggest something rectal-route but I'd expect to see a daily occurrence of blood in that eventuality.

Exactly that’s what I thought.. flares are consistent, they don’t show up just one day a month and with no other symptom, literally if I don’t look and check everytime I wouldn’t known I have up... so weird

Yeah maybe is not alarming or painful is just confusing... I would like to know if I’m in a flare or not :/

Endoscopy is the only way to say for 100% sure. If you have any inflammation then it is extremely mild.

You could ask for canasa suppositories for a couple months, or rowasa enemas as a test to see if it clears up on it's own. That would answer the question in a less invasive way, if you can convince your doctor to prescribe them.

Certainly ask your doctor about once a month bleeding. See what he/she says (a FCP stool test or CRP blood test is unlikely to register very mild inflammation). Ask for a prescription to see.

I hate enemas but I think you’re right, I’m going to try it, yeah I’ve done some fcp and nothing, no inflammation no mucus no blood, thank you si much

I just had my bm of the morning... everything back to normal... god knows what is going on...
