Hello all!

Today we launched a much anticipated forum redesign to match the new look and feel of the rest of the web site. I hope you like it. This new design offers many benefits. Most significant among these is that it is now mobile friendly and easy to use from your smartphone or mobile device.

There are still a few cobwebs we have to clear and screens that need fixing. These include the My Profile section, the Profile page, the Members listing, Active Users screen, and a few administrative screens. We will be tweaking these in the weeks ahead. Also the Help section is a bit outdated and will be revised ASAP.

You'll notice one obvious item missing. We don't have chat functionality anymore. Our chat software was just too outdated. I'll be looking at more modern solutions in the days and weeks ahead that maybe we could integrate.

Anyway, check out the changes. I think you'll enjoy it. Just reply to this thread with any problems you may run into. I may not be able to respond to everyone's comments but I will be tracking them. Thanks so much!

You will notice that there is a generic avatar placeholder by your name. Everyone has the same one right now. But stay tuned, we will be turning on the ability to choose your own avatars in the weeks ahead.

When I first saw it, I thought I was on the wrong website. Perhaps for us old folks, make the font darker.

I’d love to see a like button for posts and topics. On other forums I’ve even seen dislike buttons.

Old Mike, which font are you referring to? The text in the body of posts?

It's a thin font throughout for me, but i don't mind it. I could see how some people would prefer it a bit heavier.

Yes, the text in the body of post.
As I write this it is black on white, but will revert when posted as a lighter black on a light blue.
At least that is how I see it.
Actually if I change the angle of my laptop screen it does have more contrast.
Perhaps it is just the viewing angle.
It is good enough with a different angle.

I'll look into it. It isn't a solid black... it's kind of an off black right now.

Can you make the alternating posts’ backgrounds have more of a contrast? They currently look very similar and it is a little difficult to scroll fast through the previous posts.

Hello! Can you please restore the BACK TO TOP Link, which especially makes it easier to navigate popular-topic threads? BTW, thank you so much for all the invaluable support you give to us UCers!!!!!!!!!!!! / Old Hat (38 years with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Old Hat, I'm afraid the Back to Top links are gone for now.... I'll consider your suggestion.

The desktop version works best on my phone and tablet. ..there's not enough contrast...especially on the forum thread list. The font is blue. Dark navy would be better....and I agree with Keith about the alternating post colours.

The other issue....could you try the line spacing a tad closer?

Thanks Quincy. I’ll talk with our designer about the contrast issue. Line spacing varies depending on your device but I’ll keep an eye on it.

I am not sure how to phrase this issue - but in the previous version I could easily see what threads I'd read and which I had not, so I knew exactly where I'd left off. There was a little file folder symbol next to each thread. If it was open, that means there were no unread posts in it. If it was closed, then there were new posts in it. Now I can't tell which thread I am completely caught up on and which I need to read. Unless there is something I am missing?

Serenity Now, I believe you can see the icon in front of the thread and if it's pale, you have read it. I also see a "Last Seen" link by the thread title. It will take you right where you left off.

Okay I haven't explained clearly enough. The dark icon just means it's a brand new thread, you haven't read any posts in it at all. When it's pale, it could mean you have read all the posts or just some of them. "Last Seen" brings you to the last one you've read regardless of whether you've read them all or not. There used to be an icon that shows if there are new posts in a thread even if it's not a brand new thread. Anyway, it seems like we are not going to get that again so I'll just have to write down the last thread I've read so I know where I've left off.

The darker comment (bubble) icon means a thread is a new post OR is a post with new replies. It goes dark blue in BOTH cases. The comment icon turns greyish when you've already read all posts in the thread and there are no new replies. At least that's how it is supposed to work.

There is a caveat. The comment icon only changes if you reload the forum list page. If you use your back button you won't see the change because the page didn't fully reload.

I will keep a close eye on it.

I see. It is not working that way for me. For example, the icon for this thread was grey but I noticed that the last reply was by you and not me, so I knew there had to be a new post (which there was). That is happening with all the threads. If it is only me that it is not working for, then it doesn't really matter, I can cope. But just so you know that's happening, in case it happens to anyone else.

But did you refresh the page by going back to the forum list with your back button, or did you use the breadcrumb link above or hit the reload button on your browser? The first option won't change the status of the comment icon.

I used the breadcrumb link above. I never use the back button. And even logging out and re-logging in does not do the trick. Anyway, as I say, I will live with it if it's just me.
