Jury Duty Monday?

Hello,

I'm new to this forum, but I figured you all might be able to answer my question. I have been called for jury duty on Monday (12/3), and I just started experiencing a flare these past few days (D, tenesmus, urgency, the works). I was hoping my group number wouldn't be called, but I just checked and I need to report after all.

The jury services office is closed until Monday morning (15 mins before I'm due to report), as is my GI's office. I've emailed both, but I'm not sure when I'll be able to get a response from either. Have any of you "called in sick" the day of jury duty before? Or told a judge during voir dire without a doctor's note? I'm not trying to shirk my duty completely, just postpone it for a few months until I'm sure I'll be well again.

Any advice would be welcome!

Good luck, i was in the start of my 1st flair when i got a notice, my doctor was able to fill out a request for extention. But i did mine in advance. Im sure if you call the courts and let them know its medical reason and have you doctor fill out the paperwork, they will help you.

In 32 years of having UC I always got a note from my gastro that I couldn't go to jury duty. Never had an issue

You will sit in a room twiddling your thumbs at least for an hour (probably longer) before anything actually happens, like them calling your group to come in and sit for selection. Call your GI the minute they open and have them e-mail you a note. Also wait in the line for jury services -- they are typically located in the same room you have to wait in, or just outside, anyway. If it comes down to telling the judge, just ask to speak to the judge privately at the bench, and they should let you approach so you can explain that you have UC, and flares are impossible to predict, and you just started one late last week, and what they entails.

Travesty i never ever went to court to explain my UC.I always mailed it in so i wouldn't miss work,never had a problem doing it that way.I live in Nassau County, New York

I had my GI write me a note last time because I was flaring severely. I was able to get it organized in advance, with so little time, I don't know what you can do. You could eat very minimally. That usually helps me get through immediate obligations.

3timeschamp -- that is would I would recommend as well, but OP has to present himself Monday, so he doesn't have that option right now.
