I just picked up my refil for my generic lialda and my pharmacy filled it with a North Star/casual healthcare. Anyone else used these? I am going to start mixing them with my shire generic that I have to ease the transition because goodness knows I don’t need anything else upsetting this flare up that I am in right now!

Never heard of it. Do they have a pill code (printed or embossed on each pill) and if so what is that code?

Yup, it has IIL embossed on it. They are about as long as the shire generic but a bit flatter and wider. Color is la touch lighter and not shiny. Going to take one tonight and with my regular pill.

That sounds exactly like the generic I get from Canada: flatter, wider and a bit lighter in color. The color does not come off on damp fingers. Mine are from Sun Pharma Labs and have no imprint, but chances are good that your new generic and mine are stamped out on the same equipment in India. I have not noticed any difference in symptoms from brand Lialda. Hope you have good insurance and don't have to worry about cost.

We have a blue cross plan with a $5k out of pocket max for our insurance but we don’t pay any money for the plan, in fact we get $2k back from my husband’s employer for taking it. The first few months of the year hurt a little bit by April we get all our health care/meds/you name it without paying anything else. I hope the transition is smooth. So far so good. Who knows, maybe this will work better than the shire generic!

Oddly enough, my zydus generic lialda is embossed with pill code 711:

I think it might be 711 from zydus. I used to think IIL untill I read John's reply.

hmm, the L or 7 isn't slanted, so I read it as an L, but it could be a 7. In fact I just looked it up online and it says it is embossed as 711!

Sorry to bump this old thread but I was looking at Costco for Lialda, and they say they have Northstar-generic at $2.15 per pill. However Northstar is not listed as a Theraputic Equivalent for Lialda on the FDA website ( https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cder/daf/index.cfm?event=overview.process&ApplNo=211858 ) which only lists Shire, Actavis, Sun, Zydus, and Mylan.

Does anyone know what's going on?

In another thread someone mentioned that Northstar is the same as Zydus but I have seen no evidence online that one company is owned by the other.

I called my local pharmacy, RiteAid a few weeks back to ask what generics I could get for Lialda in the 1.2-gram size. Here's what I found out:
  • Yes, can order. Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc. NDC Code(s): 0378-7401-37, 0378-7401-78
  • No, not currently available to order but that could change in the near future. Actavis Pharma, Inc. NDC Code(s): 0591-2245-10, 0591-2245-22
  • Yes, can order. Zydus Pharmaceuticals (USA) Inc. NDC Code(s): 68382-711-19, 68382-711-64
  • Yes, can order (brand-named Lialda). Shire US Manufacturing Inc. NDC Code(s): 54092-100-01
It looks like Northstar does have an NDC number available, so you should be able to ask your pharmacy and get it (so should be FDA approved). It's a 1.2-gram tab and therefore equivalent to lialda:
