Gas and cuffitis pain so unbearable

I feel your pain! I HAD similar problems recently. Fennel seed tea...I know...sounds like another herbal, non-working remedy...but it certainly helped a GREAT deal for me. Worth a try if you aren't allergic to fennel and don't mine the flavor of licorice. Crush fennel seeds, boil water and soak the let the seeds soak until cool enough to drink. You can add peppermint if you want a different taste and use whatever you wish to sweeten. As for butt burn!!!....OH MAN! While hospitalized, I was using the moist, aloe, baby wipes and tons of that white smelly zinc oxide ointment for butt burn. I told one of the nurses about how messy and nasty I felt using it; and how the antibacterial hand sanitizer was erasing my fingerprints! LOL She soon brought me in a tube of an over the counter ointment called Calmoseptine. The stuff is still zinc oxide and menthol but it has NO smell, NO greasy feel, and it didn't stain my clothing. Plus...it WORKS!!! I will say, it's hard to squeeze it from the tube; it's super thick...like window putty!!!... but it only takes a tiny amount and it stays where you put it. I ordered some through Amazon when I got home...just for future 'emergencies'. LOL My gastro doctor prescribed all kinds of anti-gas medications for me, plus, over the counter medications. Nothing worked better than the fennel seed tea. In my case, I drank a mug of it, three times a day and got much relief. It never seemed to matter what I ate, or if I ate...the gas was terrible. That stinks valli. I am so sorry to hear you're still struggling. I think I would probably want to look into something like stelara. You can't be on antibiotics forever, and you've really not gotten a long break from this pouchitis. It seems like you would be better off treating it with something more long-term.

OK Valli us New Yorkers don't like our fellow surgery patients in discomfort.So we are coming up there to have a talk with that pouch of yours .No more pains in the AS...................BACK DOOR for our fellow 2018 graduates.Were gonna scare the hell out of that pouch with some nasty New York terminology like Fughtboutit. Trying to make u laugh,I'm sure its not easy.Tell your boyfriend u need a 3 month vacation after recovery,let him watch the kids[it always the mans fault when anything goes wrong in a relationship so blame it all on him].Hey i pray to God that Drs can get that back door feeling better.I'll try to steal some anestesia from hospital on Thursday for you.Now u want the lightweight stuff or do i look for IV morphine drip where u can sleep until they fix the BACK DOOR.Praying your better soon

Hi i am chipping in here as someone who knows almost nothing about this subject....except that in the UK vsl#3 is prescribed to treat pouchitis. (Interestingly, it's not officially approved for colitis). Is that something that could help in this situation?

If you go on Stelara then you might not come off of it. My GI won’t let me off of it.

Maybe you just have to find the correct antibiotic(s) for the right amount of time to knock it out. I’d get really aggressive with rectals, antibiotics and a steroid.

Biologicals would be my last choice.

Ask about SIBO, there is an easy test for it.

Will as for the SIBO test good idea , and yes I agree I would want biological as my last effort.

I would welcome my backdoor recieveing a good talking too. But I don’t think the BF would see it that way . I can see it now 5-8 folks all lining up ready to take on the task of yelling at my ...and scaring it. Lol
But right now I can only hope the predistone works. I pray it does .

And I try not blame him but if I did he would be the first I he I try to pin it on lol

Your operation is coming up right champ! What are you feeling nervous or glad to get it over with ?

It's good to avoid the biologics if it's not chronic, but ultimately, if it is, you can't take steroids or antibiotics forever so what is the choice? Hopefully you don't need to consider a biologic, but i know if it were that or long-term pred or antibiotics for me, i'd choose a biologic.

Surgery is Thursday. I'll be fine. After recovery from the 3 surgeries this should be easier. They gave me a nice long vertical incision for surgeries last year so I'm not sure how big this incision will be but I'll find out Thursday. I don't like sitting still so I have to go back '18 surgery mode. I'll be ok. More concerned that you get better. We know discomfort with UC. Don't like hearing one of us is having issues after surgery. Prayers that u get better quickly.

Do you have to prep for your surgery? I think that I mentioned it before but my digestive tract didn’t want to cooperate after waking up from my hip surgery. Took me a few days. I wonder if I preped prior that it would have been better.

Yes I agree it will be easier then the others it just sucks you have to endure another surgery . But on the positive side 👼get it done now before it gets bigger or worst and the weather is still crap so you are not missing anything .

Chewable pepto bismol tablets actually helped me quite a bit, as the heavy metal like bi****h salicylate kills bacteria. Imagine your pouch being coated in some nice pink bi****h salicylate! It can also be used long term with little to no side effects. I found certain foods also increase gas, I know I ate a lot of rice and asian style foods over western diets which gave me extra gas. Digestive enzymes also seemed to help breaking down the food such as beano, etc. (I'm still not sure why b-i-s-m-u-t-h is censored on here.)

Good idea but not sure it works I have been on it since Thursday , I tired weeks ago and stoped after week but thought it can’t hurt again this week to try again.

I had terrible gas as well at first for a few months, luckily it settled down for me after a while (I hope it does for you too).

In terms of butt burn, my surgeon actually told me that all the creams etc. were hurting not helping....with all the creams and the constant baths + more cream, you create a moisture build up that actually breaks down the skin not helps heal it. His suggestion was baby powder to help keep the area dry, which helped tremendously for me. Try that see if it helps....

That happened to me too. I was soaking, and using a handheld bidet, creams, wipes. It made a perfect environment for the breakdown of the fragile skin around my bottom. Though, if you're going a ton, you have to do something!! Sometimes drying helps more than loading up on the cream. Ilex is a cream that creates a barrier - it might help. Everyone is different, once I had to get an Rx cream to calm my bottom because i was using so many creams it caused yeast to flourish. have you tried psyllium husk? I wonder if something like bentyl would help with the spasms? Also, Keith's suggestion of opium tincture. That could really slow you down. Are you doing better today?
