I was diagnosed with mild-moderate UC in 1998. I have had flares on and off every couple, three years. As the years go by, the flares are worse and are harder to get rid of. I am on 4800 mg of Delzical a day, and was on 40 mg Prednisone and tapered down to 10. Then back on 20 mg and am currently tapering to 10 mg and also am doing cortisone enemas. I had a scope done and my UC is mainly in the rectum - proctitis. No other inflamation anywhere else. I am having mucous and blood again daily. 2-3 urgent bm's. I have leakage and I have alot of gas as well. It's not horrible, but it sucks to live with this. I know that people here have it alot worse. My GI said if after treating with prednisone both orally and rectally, and taking max dose of Delzical, the next step is a stronger drug like Humira or a biologic. Because I am able to "live" with this right now, although not great, is it better to keep going or just try something much stronger? If I just keep doing what I'm doing, what are the chances of it getting better on its own versus just develping into a terrible flare? It's all very frustrating. Thank God for the support here. A lot of people don't understand how it is to have this chronic disease and the frustration and how it affects quality of life.
