Hey there,

Curious what people's experiences have been after a colonoscopy. I've been mid-flare and had one on Thursday and I feel like I still have loose stools. Getting a little better though. Do we have a longer recovery time because our tummies are screwed up? I just don't want it to make my flare worse. Currently at about 10bms per day, which is 8 too much!

I suggest to add rectal meds to your regimen if you haven't as of yet.

Regarding a c-scope exacerbating a flare....it can for some, but you would have been flaring even if you didn't have the scope.

Do you have the results of your scope yet?

Normal to have an upset system 3-4 days post colonoscopy due to the invasive procedure, prep, and biopsies. You should quickly settle down to your normal. If not, contact your gasteroenterologist and run tests for a possible flare up.

Yes. My results indicate severe inflammation in the rectum only. 2-3cm severe I think at the very end and then moderate in the distal rectum. I think that's it. It's slowly returning to normal flare and less liquidy, yuck. So I guess that's good. Thanks for the responses. I may try rectal meslamine (again) since it's so close it might work. I just can't get the medicine to stay in. And it takes me FOREVER to administer the whole bottle. Any tips there?

Use suppositories 1g dosage twice a day since the severest inflammation is limited and you are averse to using the mesalamine enemas. Best to try other options than none at all.

You can use either mesalamine or steroid or one in morning and the other at night and/or foam enemas if available in either steroid or mesalamine.

Biggest thing is squeezing all the air out of the bottle before administering. There's going to be a strong sensation to evacute the enema after administering ignore it, and that feeling should pass in about a minute.

Steroid enemas or suppositories might work better for severe inflammation.
