I get my Remicade at the hospital and everything is billed through major medical so I don't have to deal with a separate pharmacy.
When I was on Entyvio I had to order the med through my specialty pharmacy and have it shipped to the infusion center and I had to confirm the shipping each time. Best if you stay on top of your shipments. Less headaches and worries. I always ordered 2 weeks in advance so there was plenty of time to get the med there even if there were any sorts of shipping delays due to weather.
I just looked and Inflectra has it's own co pay assistance so you would have to set that up with them if your insurance would even cover it. Since you weren't pre-approved for Inflectra I doubt that they would have even covered it. You just can't substitute meds like this on the fly. I am surprised that the infusion center even tried something like that!
Is there another infusion center you can use? This one doesn't sound like they know what they are doing!
Thanks for the tips. I guess I will be making more "check-up" calls to the pharmacy and the infusion center in the future regarding shipping and receiving of my medicine. I was hoping I could avoid having to call Walgreens every time with doing the one-time consent option, but now I realize I need to check on them every single time. Lol, how ridiculous. At least they don't usually have long hold times on the phone...trying to be positive. Ha.
Yeah, the more I think about
it, it really is strange they were going to just substitute it. They called my doctor to check with him but didn't call me or my insurance. I highly doubt my pre-auth for Inflectra from over a year ago, when I was seeing a different doctor, would have still been effective. The hospital pharmacy is probably going to have to eat the cost of that Inflectra now anyway because they mixed it before telling me that's what I was going to get today. Not sure how all that works but the nurses always tell me they wait until they know a patient is going to show up for sure before they mix the medicine since it is so expensive, so I'm assuming if a patient never shows they can return it or something? It seems odd to me that they held onto it for over a year anyway when I never scheduled any appointments to get that.
