Finally I met my thousands of dollars deductible!
My copay for generic Canasa is about 900$!
My copay for Canasa with the using of Canasa card is about 900$!
Is there other options to treat Proctitis?
Other than Canasa, Pentasa, Asacol and hydrocortisone supp.
All failed for me except Canasa, I have to use it every night, but it’s very expensive!

Uceris Foam might still have a copay coupon card but if you are high deductible it might not make it that cheap. Best bet is to put the amount of your deductible on an HSA if you are able to, that is. Canasa generic is still pricey cause it’s new. Even enemas are expensive. If you are able to get a 3 month supply, time it so that you fill 3 months sometime in December if you need a couple months to save up the money. open enrollment for ins plans is soon, if you have other options, do the math of premium diff and deductible difference. Also see if your insurance gives you a price break using mail order.

It’s budesonide in a foam, so it’s a steroid. Not usually used long term. My guess is your dr will say stay with Canasa. I use it too. I hate when the year starts and I have to meet that deductible! If you are fortunate enough to have plans to choose from I’d do a lot of research this fall. If you work somewhere where they offer HSA match that is helpful but I realize that may be a long shot.

I had the exact same issue. GoodRx.com has coupons that bring the price down to 400. Print one out and use it at your pharmacy. Still bad, but better than 900.

Note: My insurance would NOT cover Uceris because I have proctitis. You need more advanced UC for insurance to cover it.

You could ask your doctor for prednisone, which is very cheap, but the side effects might not be worth the risk for you.

If you're having trouble paying for your prescription meds, ALWAYS check online to see if there is a copay or patient assistance program. I always do a search first for the manufacturer or the medication and go to their website and search. Don't go to other programs like GoodRX or prescriptionsavingscoupon (I made that one up, but there are lots of sites out there) because the cost is not as cheap as through the manufacturer.

Uceris is manufactured by Salix which is now part of Bausch+Lomb. They have a $25 copay card if you have insurance. If you're on Medicare like me, then the copay programs won't work for you, so I use the patient assistance program. Here's the links to both, if that's okay with the mods.

@FlowersGal: for Canasa specifically, GoodRX is MUCH cheaper than the manufacturer coupon if you have a high insurance premium, which is the case for this person. Currently prices are around $300.

Uceris is not covered by my insurance,and
I need to use Canasa every night, whenever I skip it, inflammation comes back.
I don’t have a job, so one insurance,I’m using my husband’s insurance. We did see other insurance options before, this was better than the market place!
I did use the Manufacturer coupon, the price was about 1200$ and they gave me 250$ Discount (the maximum discount per month)

I was wondering when you buy three months supply do they still give 250$ discount or 750$(250*3) !

Funny that my insurance keeps advising me to use GoodRx!
I’m all ready buying my all my other medications from overseas, I’m saving money for both me and my insurance lol

The NP advised me to try the online pharmacy! I’m planning to try that, but waiting to have some supply just in case.

Was hopping to try something other than Canasa!

The patient assistance program is free medication. Doesn't hurt to call them and ask if you qualify. It's income based to be accepted and I can't recall what the criteria is. The phone number is on the website listed above. They also might provide the medication to you even if your insurance company denies you.

There are generic mesalamine enemas, or generic steroids supps or enemas. ALl of those are pretty reasonable. I wouldn't jump to the steroid items if your well-managed, but they are good to have on-hand incase things flare-up.

Often mesalamine-retention-enema is cheaper than canasa suppositories are. Commonly known as a Rowasa enema.

I've been in the same boat too where Canasa was just too expensive. If you're open to getting the generic form from another country I would recommend universal drug store. You just need your doctor to send a prescription once a year and the 3 month supply is much much cheaper. The generic version has the same exact ingredient ( mesalamine) as Canasa so it's just as effective. I would stay away from steroids especially if you don't need them.
