I am sorry to hear about your brother's condition. Any update on how he is doing? I had an ileostomy temporarily while I was going through j-pouch surgery, and it has some ups and downs. On the positive side, he will feel better and get his life back. On the negative, it takes some practice and it can be difficult to accept. It really depends on him. Some people feel so much better that they are very quick to move on with life and adapt. Others, it takes longer, but the bottom line is that it sounds like this was necessary... his life is much more important than his colon. Do you know if it's an ileostomy or a colostomy? CC is right, let the ostomy nurses guide you and try different products. They often have samples, but you can also order samples online through the manufacturers once you know the size of the stoma. I always enjoyed trying products. I could use anything with my end ileo and it all worked well for the purpose. It came down to preference. Everyone seems to love the coloplast mio setup.
