Half-joking: When there's chocolate or sweets to be attained, it is purely my gut driving the car while my mind is asleep lol.

We know there is a lot of talking going on back and forth between the brain and gut (and vice versa; it's 2-way communication). The bacterium in our gut do communicate with the brain to some degree. The Fecal Microbia Transplants that suddenly changed moods, caused rapid weight gain, etc is interesting that our bacterium can influence moods and weight gain/loss.

Lot's of which came 1st, the chicken or the egg with UC. Your guess is as good as mine.

The problem with this hypothesis is it leads to patients being "blamed" for their illness (i.e. they can correct it with happy thoughts, seeing a therapist, etc). No doubt gut and brain can communicate with each other, but I doubt we will see mental health problems as the underlying cause of colitis.
