My GI's office has a dietitian in their office who only deals with GI patients. She understands the challenges that we face. I'm not sure regular dietitians know about IBDs.

Maybe the CCFA has something on their website or their office has something that they can share with you for recommended foods.

They inserted the NG tube a couple hours ago but I'm still so bloated

The tube doesn't seem to do anything. It's on intermittent pump so it just swishes the contents out my stomach and back in. What the hell

What's the plan? I think you need to see a specialist so you can find out what your options are. I know you don't have a relationship with your surgeon but I am sure there are other surgeons in your area that you can consult with. Are you admitted? Request to see a colorectal.

I don't understand the tube. They put it in through your rectum or how is there a tube inside you? This all sounds horrible.

Sara I don't have a rectum. They put it through the nose into my stomach

Why do I need to see a surgeon? I don't plan on having another surgery. I need to control this inflammation

I wouldn't want an NG tube if I had a GI blockage, that seems odd they are doing that. I would ask them for a scan other than an X-ray. Hope you feel better soon.

If you want to get to the bottom of this, you need to see a specialist and get appropriate testing. It seems like you're reacting to the situation but you do not go beyond that.

I'm in the hospital where my GI is at. He's ordering the xray. I asked for MRI and he said no need. And the ER doctor said you can't see adhesions on any image, only with surgery.

Why is it weird to have a ng tube for blockage? I thought it was routine for this.

I am happy you're seeing your GI. I wouldn't want to be opened up for that either. I guess you just have to get through this and hope that over time you continue to heal. It hasn't been that long since your takedown.
I just looked up "MRI to detect adhesions" and the results seemed to lean toward them being useful in detection.

There were a bunch. Even if you don't want to do anything now, or ever, it's still good to know what you're dealing with.

It's not on me. I asked and brought it up several times already but if they don't want to do it what is can I do? I'm currently in the hospital with the NG tube I can't just walk out and get a second opinion right now. I can do that once I'm discharged.

I’ve seen plenty of people in the hospital who get NG tubes after surgery. I’m guessing it is for ileus while their intestine wakes up.

I’d try to calmly ask them to explain their reasoning for (pros/cons/thoughts) the NG tube, x-ray vs MRI, what they see and why are you getting a blockage. Ask them for a plan, what is next if this doesn’t work. Tell them you’re not willing to have surgery without having an MRI first (I am not suggesting that you have surgery but as a bargaining chip).

When I have good conversations with my GI then I usually get my way. I have to explain myself and I expect my GI to explain himself so that I can understand.

Hate the NG, but yes it is standard practice for blockages. The stomach and intestines make a lot of fluid every day, and they suck that out through the tube to stop it causing nausea and vomiting. When the body starts reabsorbing the fluid on its own (which they can see if very little is coming out of the NG tube ) they take the tube out.

I am sorry. I am just worried about you and I want you to get better. I wonder if you can request to see your GI and do as Keith mentioned. Say you can't deal with these ups and downs and you have seen evidence that an MRI might be helpful in finding solutions.
