Update on food poisening and Remicade ?

2 weeks ago I posted about being in a flare and the getting a rare food poisening illness called Yersinia. IT WAS HORRIBLE and my colitis became much worse. I am now on 40 mg prednisone and they are planning on starting Remicade this Friday. I have put off of taking this med for years.

I have fears and want to know how others have faired. I worry about weight gain and fatigue and lymphoma. From what I have seen wieght gain doesnt seem to be a huge issue. I have of course lost some weight being this sick so gaining a few pounds- like 5 or so isnt a big deal. I do want to feel well and be abel to engage in life fully again. Is this the right move?

Also, inthe last 2 weeks I have been doing Dr McDougals plant based diet. Is anyone familiar with this or have had success?

Are you now clear of the Yersinia? I thought that I had read it can take a while to get rid of.

Remicade is better by far than prednisone. It hasn't worked as quickly for me as it has for others but I am feeling good and have no side effects. Just bummed that this is the first time in years when I can leave my house without worry and now there is nowhere to go because everything is closed sad

I wouldn't worry a whole lot about remicade. Hope that pred kicks in and carries you until the remi can take over.

Thank you so much for your feedback. In regards to the Yersinia I was so very ill that they ended up giving me an antibiotic. They did another stool study and it was gone . Thank God.

I’m on entyvio instead of remicade but I can tell you that I was very hesitant to go on a biologic and very nervous. But I’m so glad I did. I’m happily in remission and having my life back has been wonderful. I can eat pretty much as I like and don’t have to worry about running to the bathroom. Infusions are every 8 weeks and so far there’s been no worries about scheduling due to vacations or trips. I wish you good luck with remicade. Being sickly is no fun.

I will add that I am also on Remicade and once on the right dose it’s a great drug of it works for you. I had 1.5 years of remission eating anything I wanted . I recently had a mild flare and too a very short course Of prednisone which knocked the flare out . I have no side effects although did have fatigue in the beginning. The fatigue is not overwhelming though. I gained some weight but I also started lexapro around the same time and that adds to weight gain. I gained about 12lbs. The plant based diet is what I would love to live on my sometimes too many veggies cause distress. It’s a shame but healthier food is rough on the colon at times. Good luck and stay positive !

Thank you everyone. This is very reassuring. about how long will it take to notice effects. I think they will continue me on predinisone for a bit.
