E. coli infection

My stool test came back positive for pathogenic e. coli. It's probably why I've been having totally reeking stool, blood, and flare symptoms that won't calm down with the usual methods.

My GP has prescribed amoxicillin, but I am scared to take it. I know I have to, but in the past, antibiotics make me worse because they kill all the good flora I have been working hard to shore up in my body.

Has anyone here dealt with infections like this that trigger their UC? Did you get better after the infection was treated?

I am scared but also hopeful.

I don't have any real life experiences with your situation but I am glad you found out what is going on.

I think the antibiotics would help in this case, but follow up with a probiotic you know your body likes. There is also the option of activated charcoal once you complete the antibiotics, then probiotics. But I would take whatever you can to get rid of e coli!
