Is it possible for a colon to swell, say on the left side, and push against either the rib cage or the muscles and tissue surrounding the colon and cause left-side spasms and sensations?

It's possible if you have megacolon....but having gas and spasming will give thise same symptoms.
Clarify if you're flaring?...
Some foods can also cause extreme gas and spasming.

Inflammation in the colon can cause weird stuff higher up in the digestive system. Trapped gas etc.
