Hi,

UC patient here. I was diagnosed in 2017 (mild to moderate pancolitis) and have been in remission since then. I received my 1st shot on March 7th, tested positive for igM antibodies on day 8th and nothing since then. It looked like the 1st shot didn't really do anything at all. 4 days after my second shot (March 28th), I went to Quest labs and got "COVID-19 Antibody Test (SARS-CoV-2 AB IgG), Semi-Quantitative" which tests for the spike (the correct test!) and it came back negative - I didn't seroconvert after the 1st shot! Yesterday, my home test (FDA authorized and targets the spike) started slowly converting the igG line to positive. So, something is definitely happening after the 2nd shot. I was wondering if any of you has been testing themselves for antibodies and what the results are?

I tested friends and family members with the home test that I have, and they all nicely converted after the 1st shot. So, the test is definitely not the issue here.

Medications: Apriso/Oral Mesalamine 0.375, 4 pills/ day.
Vaccine: Pfizer
Age: 34

I want to get tested because I have read some things that say being on immune suppressant meds can prevent antibody formation. What is the name of the at home test you use and where did you get it?

I had my 2nd dose of Pfizer on 3/7 so I should have antibodies if the vaccine works with remicade

Interesting! But it doesn't seem like you have to worry if your 2nd shot IS showing seroconverting. Shot #1 is considered to be a "primer", so-to-speak. Apriso should not be a factor in your vaccine response because 5-ASAs are not immuno-modulators, according to what we're commonly told by IBD experts. Great that you're in remission from UC for a good while. / Old Hat (40 yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)

Are any of the antibody tests over the counter? How much are they?

I have surgery scheduled and wanted one but my PCP stated it wasn't really needed because I need the surgery regardless of the test results and even if the test came back negative they are not vaccinating patients again.

I would love to have a test....

I just posted this on another thread, but copy/pasting here as it's relevant.

Just know those of us on infliximab/remicade or corticosteroids/prednisone might have a weakened immune system response to that vaccination until after receiving our 2nd dose. We should get a full response after the second dose. That's according to some ongoing research. Do be careful until then!

That's really encouraging, iPoop!! I would still love to have a test to know for sure but those links made me feel better. I had my 2nd dose of Pfizer on 3/7 so hopefully I am swimming with antibodies smile

Ditto - my 2nd was 2/28. I did have achy joints and a low grade fever after the 2nd so crossing fingers something happened.
