Hey there..hope all is well. So, I have a question. Now that I have been given the green light to move on from the low residue diet and now onto the inflammatory bowel diet. So, what foods can I introduce back into my world? I would have contacted the doctor’s office but they were closed when I checked my messages and of course, the message was very vague.
I do not have any issues with dairy. My symptoms are just a bit of blood in the stool at times when I go, no urges and not on any other med, just my normal daily supplements and the infusion. My first Entivyo infusion was a little over a week ago and other than that, I feel pretty much back to normal. I know at this time and probably not till I have my next scope in July of next year, no nuts or popcorn. I would love to have a salad again, onions, pulled pork. LOL. I am aware of the veggies like broccoli and cauliflower which are advised against because of the high fiber content. Anyhoo, got any suggestions? I will reach out next week and see if they can give me a list or something.
Thanks and have a safe and HEALTHY holiday weekend!

Diet is so individual, I really think you just have to introduce new foods one by one and see how you react to them.
I'm of the belief that everyone has the right to a healthy balanced diet and it's ok to use medication to get there. Many diets that are supposed to help ibd are 1. Highly restrictive and 2. Contradict each other. That's why it's so hard to tell somebody else what they should or should not be eating.
I avoid foods that are highly processed or deep fried or have a lot of refined sugar, but probably that's sensible even without colitis.
How much fibre i can tolerate depends on how much inflammation I have in my bowel. For example 2 years ago I couldn't handle spinach and now it's fine. Vegetables are also easier to digest if they're cooked until soft. I can do lentils and nuts and beans, but brown rice still causes problems.

Basically avoid saturated fats, heavy salting & spices, skins, and additives found in processed foods, plus caffeine. RE broccoli/cauliflower: the stalks are fibrous but can be pureed for soup. The florets are nutritious and easier to digest when steamed or sauteed with a bit of broth or olive oil. Most veggies are ok when cooked, baked, blended into soup-- mainly beware of tough skins & seeds. The variety of foods you can safety return to depends on how your gut behaves day-to-day. If you achieve formed bms w/o blood or mucus and get down to 1-2 daily, you're making good progress toward a more inclusive diet. The trick is not to overindulge in social situations, holiday meals, and similar occasions that can tempt a UCer to relax caution in general. My gastroenterologist always advises to get right back on the safe track if a patient "cheats" by having a rich dessert or heavy meal outside the home-- so that it doesn't become habitual. / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)
