Rectal Mesalamine - Nausea?

Hi all -- the ileostomy is going well and my QOL has definitely improved post-colectomy. I'm doing the 3-step procedure, so I still have my rectum, which is, unsurprisingly, unhappy. I need to pass blood and mucus maybe ~4 times a day and I have a lot of tenesmus. My surgeon has my using canasa in the AM and Rowasa in the PM. I've done this before, but a long time ago, and to be honest, my compliance was not very good with the Rowasa part. Anyway, a few days after starting, I began experiencing some pretty bad nausea. I am constantly nauseous. Have any of you ever experienced this from rectal meds before? Back when I was diagnosed at the end of 2017, I was put on oral mesalamine, and it gave me terrible migraines, but I don't recall the nausea.

Seems a possible sensitivity to mesalamine.
You could try 2 nights without and then back on and see if symptoms relate.

I am allergic to mesalamines.
Flu-like and pleurisy-like symptoms when taking oral colazal and nausea from canasa suppositories.

Could be mesalamine intolerance. I tried mesalazine (same thing as mesalamine) suppositories for a couple of days and ended up with chills/nausea and bleeding in the stools - I rarely get rectal bleeding so blood is a pretty obvious sign for me.

Have to say, I had much worse symptoms with oral mesalazine - fever, chills, nausea (think I vomited once or twice too, but am going back 20 years here) and frequent watery diarrhoea. Basically it mimicked the symptoms of a severe flare up in the very early days of my disease before I knew what severe flare ups felt like. I still feel a little bit angry that no doctor at the time recognised the symptoms of an intolerance/allergy and just kept on pushing more mesalazine at me that I couldn't take.

But it is possible to have a milder intolerance. I think steroids can mask the symptoms too, although I'm not certain about that one.
