How can a gut selective drug bring about a cessation of symptoms outside of the intestines?

Gut selective when developed initially. However, in general, it's an autoimmune tamping drug that would also help with autoimmune related inflammation, especially those directly connected with bowel disease. There are many such drugs in the category, but not all are the be-all for everyone.

Because it's not exclusively gut-specific.

It is actually also immunosuppressive (to a small degree) in the respiratory tract, which is why there is a higher incidence of respiratory infections (including colds) in patient in entyvio.

Just a data point — been on entyvio for 4 years and have actually had fewer respiratory infections than before.
