A few people have mentioned vaccines before starting entyvio. My infusion is next Monday and my Dr hasn’t ordered any vaccines. I’m feeling overwhelmed by my GI who left it to me to organise my own infusions. He did mention testing for certain diseases but so far has done none of them. Can anyone on entyvio share what vaccines they had if any?

I just answered this on your other post. The only vaccines that you shouldn't get after starting a biologic are the live vaccines. Inactivated vaccines are ok.

I was told to take shingles, pneumonia , flu, hep B and of course Covid. So I too all of them . Took them all last year while on Entyvio and then starting Stelara. I opted to take Hep A and B. That one is 3 vaccines. Waiting for the last one. Shingles concerned me most of all. My Father had it real bad. Covid was the only one I wasn’t sure of. I took it last!

I would call & ask the dr if he requires certain vaccines. I remember you mentioning the TB, his office needs to handle scheduling this.

With you living in Australia it may be drs have different requirements as far as vaccines go. I think folks here forget you are not in the US.

I would wait until you're off prednisone before taking any vaccines. Entyvio is generally less immunosuppressive than other biologics so I wouldn't get to anxious about this subject.

As straydog has mentioned there are different protocols in different countries and even between different doctors and hospitals.

There are 2 shingles vaccines. One is live (zostavax) and one isn't (shingrix). You don't want the live one. There have been problems with availability of shingrix outside the US (basically germany and japan bought up supplies...). I was refused shingles vaccine because I still have high antibodies due to a horrible chickenpox infection in my 20s.

I answered over there, too. You don't need to get these vaccines before you start it, unless you want to. I got the shingles vax only after starting Xeljanz because there's a very small increased risk for getting shingles while on Xeljanz. I got the pneumonia vaccine after having been on Remicade, Humira and Entyvio because that's when my GI happened to suggest it.

I’ve ordered the Shingrix vaccine to my local pharmacy but Dr said not to take it until I’m finished this course of prednisone in April.

Yes the management of this infusion has been really poor. The lady at the infusion Centre was furious at Dr Tu for leaving it to me to organise. He did mention TB amd that’s all he’s done. When I rang back again to query it his secretary sent pathology for FE and FCB. He’s really made me question whether I should continue as his patient

As long as some of these are possible after. I was stressed I had to try and do all this before my infusion.

Nope there's no rush smile

It's only the live vaccines that you can't do after starting because there is no data on whether that's safe (since they involve injecting a live virus and you're (a bit) immunocompromised)

Live vaccines include measles and yellow fever. Measles you probably already had and yellow fever is only relevant if you want to travel to certain countries.

should I get my antibodies checked for shingles. I have had the herpies virus and chicken pox

No, just get the shingrix vaccine if you want to sometime. It doesn't matter if you've had chicken pox. That actually means you can get shingles.

Nope not necessary to check antibodies. That was my hospital being awkward (and at a time when shingrix was not widely available in Europe) and they were checking my antibodies to pretty much everything at the time.
The shingles vaccine is more necessary for people on xeljanz, rather than entyvio.
