Bathroom Access Act - mild rant

I saw on the news this morning that the Bathroom Access Act,which is a law or act that is being created for people with IBD's or other health concerns to have free access to employee only restrooms in public places, is getting closer to becoming a reality.  But with this new act, a doctors form must be filled out before hand (which has to be carried by the Ibd'er) to allow Ibd'ers to have free access to these restrooms.  I'm glad that this may be getting closer to be of practical use for us (it will be highly helpful) - but when I have to go, I need to GO NOW especially when flaring (as I'm sure many of you have the same problem).  So how many of you actually have the time to dig thru your purses or wallets for this doctors permit to show it to these people???  That's the only problem I am having with this new act coming into play.  There are some times where I barely have enough time to ask the people let alone try to find this paper. Sorry about the mild rant, I seen it this morning and thought well this oughta be interesting! lol

Maybe we can get badges that we can flash. How does Poop Police work for you?! Okay sorry....being silly...woke up w/ sore throat (thinking of sitting outside the doctor's office until it turns into a sinus infection...ha ha!).

It is nice that they are going to make this a reality but you are right....when I'm flaring I have mere minutes if not seconds to get to a bathroom. Even after all these years I immediately do a bathroom search everywhere I go. This weekend we took my son to an outdoor event to see Thomas the Train. I think in about a minute I had located all the bathrooms!

LOL poop police??! It has a certain poetic ring doesn't it?? Oh and if you decide to camp out at the docs office be sure to pack a nice comfy pillow! Hey Tab, I don't know if I asked you this before but do you still have your tonsils?

I do feel like I could be the poop police b/w the UC, my 2 year old (not potty trained and currently obsessed w/ anything in his diaper and my slightly potty trained dog). I do have my tonsils. I was just talking to my parents about this the other day...both had theirs removed. Not sure if that is hereditary or not.

This is more for the allergy forum....we have been in a severe drought here in the South. Well lo and behold it is cloudy and they are calling for rain today. I'm thinking that is contributing to the sore throat. But my son just got over a cold and he loves to share germs. Guess we'll see!

that's it. i'm getting poop police tattooed on my forehead. done. try and mess with THAT uppity no public restrooms salespeople!!

it is nice that we might be able to have access and USUALLY i can hold out for a few minutes to dig through my purse or whatever, but wouldn't it be nice if (in a perfect world) we didn't have to inform strangers of a medical condition just so we could have access to a proper bathroom? i'm just saying...

The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America already offers a plastic credit card sized card that you can supposedly flash to show people you need access to employee only bathrooms or to cut in line in front of a bunch of people in a public restroom. Personally, I would find this very humiliating to use, but I'm an introverted person, so maybe that's just me.

At my sickest, I either stayed home or only went to the few necessary places where I knew there were multiple restrooms with multiple stalls. I also practiced the techniques in Jini Patel Thompson's book Listen to Your Gut that help you control even urgent bowel urges. I found them very helpful and never had accidents, even during my worst flare ups.

I have one of those cards from the CCFA too but the store/company employees can still refuse to give you access to their restrooms. This act prevents them from saying no. I have never used my card either but if I'm in a pinch then I wouldn't hesitate to pull it out.

Minnesota State leg. passed a law that it is now a civil liability to not grant people with a "I can't wait pass" access to a non-public restroom. My GI office sent out the cards to all paitents once the law passed. I guess I would rather there be a law in place then not be one. Even if there isnt time to wait, its better than none at all. In my opinion at least. If I know I'm not feeling well one day I leave it in my pocket or somewhere close so I can grab it if I need it.

What a wonderful law.  I hope it passes (no pun intended).  I would have no problem presenting a card in a hurry.  It would be the time it takes for the clerk to read it and then tell you where the facilities are.  Is this a state by state law or a federal law?
