My new GI put me on Lialda 3 months ago. He started me out with a sample package and it came with a Loyaltyscript card that saved me a bundle and I wanted to share this with you all. My insurance is not great, for a 3-month supply of Lialda, it was $250. Thats with insurance! With this Loyaltyscript card, they have a program where you only pay a $25 copay with each months supply. They can reimburse you or possibly just work with your pharmacy. It only works for the first 6 months though, and only with a month-at-a-time prescription, not with a 90-day prescription.

Yes, I use that card, too.  It is a godsend to save $! However, I learned last month that my card has to be given through the doctor GI and that it is only good for 3 refills--one per month.  I called the Lialda 1-800 number and per the loyalty scrip ID, this was the information they gave. I then called my GI nurse and asked her for another card.  She gave all the info over the phone, which I gave to the pharmacy and then received it in the mail a few days later.  Just to be on the safe side, I'd double check how many refills you can get as I thought it was usable forever!   I noticed we are both on 4 Lialda and 30mg (I am tapering 5 mg less per week from 40).  I am doing so much better and hope you are, too!

Hmm. I already received rebates for 3 months worth, and Loyaltyscript said its good for another 3 months. Well, Im going to buy it either way so we'll see :)
I was on 2 Lialda pills 3 months ago but then I started getting worse so I went up to 4. I have a colonoscopy tomorrow and Im going to see if I can go back to taking just 2 because its soooo much cheaper.

Shire, manufacturer of Lialda, is still offering a once monthly discount usable in addition to your insurance.  It is good through December, 2010.  Google "Shire" and use the "contact us" (bottom of page) email to ask for it.  My pharmacist says she fills them all day!  They'll send you a card to use.  If you need med immediately, they give you necessary Card ID #, grp ID #, etc to bring to pharmacist.  They don't ask any embarrassing questions.  I paid $35 for 60 1.2 gram tablets.  Go for it. 

Also, some people with UC are also lactose intolerant and gluten intolerant.  I feel much better since eliminating both.  Try it for 6 weeks, then slowly try certain cheeses (mozzarella) some breads (whole grain and organic) to see if you can tolerate.  There are lots of alternatives to wheat: kasha (buckwheat) makes a great cereal (buy roasted kasha at Whole Foods, mix 1 egg into 4/3 c. , then boil in 4 c. salted water for 15-20 min. on medium heat.) quinoa is great, etc.
