Anyone ever taken these for rectal spasms? If so, how long did it take to work? I had a total colectomy in August and they kept my rectum in order to form a J-pouch later on, but have been having horrible spasms. The surgeon told me that a discharge was normal, but mine is getting bloodier so I called my GI last week and they wrote a script
for Belladonna & Opium suppositories. I started it last Wednesday and am still not feeling any better and doc won't be in till Tuesday. Any help would be much appreciated!

tbraz, those suppositories should work very quickly. If you haven't had relief by now, call your doctor and ask for the next trick out of his or her bag.

Thanks. I also posted in the Ostomies and they are saying the same thing, that I should be feeling better by now. I hope they have another idea (besides removing the rectum) I don't know how much longer I can take the pain, I have been holding off as long as I can. I was on cortisone enemas and IV steroids and tried Remicade, but nothing worked and they said my entire colon was inflamed (rectum the worst) and it came close to perforating so they did the surgery. I have been taking 1 ultram in the afternoon and by early evening I am hurting so bad. I take the suppository before bed, which also causes discomfort and pain until it dissolves a little bit. I think that I'll take it again tonight and if there is no relief tomorrow, I will stop taking it all together and leave a message for my doctor on Monday.
