I just wanted to share that I've been feeling really good. I spent nearly all of 2006 in a horrible flare and now I can happily say that 2007 has been mostly flare-free. I started flaring again in September (blood, etc.) but it's actually under control now and I'm back to nearly normal.
Ok, so I'm not saying this to annoy those who are currently feeling like hell. I just thought I'd share because I thought last year that I would never ever feel normal again. I barely left the house for about
3 months straight last year. I remember thinking that I might as well just move a sleeping bag into the bathroom. So to go from that depth of misery to feeling normal in a year is really great. I think that for me it was a matter of finally getting a combination of drugs that I know how to use to keep me in remission.
I take 6MP-- which I swear did not start to work for 8 months! -- and now I use cortifoam at the first sign of blood. I'd prefer not to use something with steroids but I know it works and for a few weeks here and there it's not going to kill me. I also take Tylenol with codeine because one of the side effects of the codeine is constipation. That works amazingly well. I just take more when I need it and almost none when I'm ok. (But I have to be careful because I accidentally put myself into narcotics withdrawal once and it sucked.)
I also happen to have an incredible GI doctor, so I know I am lucky to be able to call her whenever I need to.
So... don't hate me because I'm feeling good! I really hope that everyone can find a combination of treatment that works. And I hope it doesn't take the 10 years it took me!

that is awesome!!! you should not feel bad for feeling good!!! It helps me to know that it is possible. One thing I seem to have learned from here is that everyone is pretty unique in what helps them and so that is great that you found your combination!! i am working to find mine again (little by little, day by day) and I know what it feels like not to leave the house and not even want to.
glad you are feeling well!

I think it's great to post when you're doing well. I know when I was at my worst, it gave me hope to see that people were able to have normal lives despite this disease.
I'm often guilty of only coming here when I'm feeling bad, and I'm trying to do better at that.

I like it when our members come back to let us know how good they feel :) It gives hope for others that are feeling like crap. Good for you and here's to many more months flare free!

Thanks! I wish I'd found this board last year when I was so miserable. I think that being able to commiserate with others who are in a similar situation is really helpful. And now when I read that some people here have been in remission for years and years... well, that REALLY helps me think optimistically. Too often I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop. My new outlook is optimism.
