I was told it's a pretty slim chance my kids would get this.  And I was also told that if they did they would probably get it around the age I got it.

My mom got it at 52 (was dx after me), I got it at 28.  I hope my kids don't get it at 8.

How many of you have kids with it?  I didn't think it was THAT big of a deal until lately.  It seems like everyone with kids has one with it, some more.  I'm kinda getting nervous now.

So how many of you with kids have kids that have it?  And what age did you get it and what age did they get it (and your parents too if they have it)??

I'm not asking so I wouldn't have kids b/c of it or anything.  I'd much rather have lived with this, than not lived at all.

There is a -10 to -15% increased risk of passing on IBD is one parent also suffers with it...my mom has UC and I have crohns, she has 6 kids, I'm the youngest and so far the only one with it besides her...she too got it late (65 yrs old) after I got it when I was in my early 20's.

I have 2 kids and one is 14 and the other 17 almost 18 and so far knocking on wood they seem fine but it's also a matter of the disease being triggered so being predisposed to it is only 1/2 the puzzle.

My mom had colitis and out of 6 kids, I too am the youngest and the only one suffering from an IBD. She was diagnosed before I was born (probably around the age of 30), but has been in remission for years. I was diagnosed at 32. I have a 3.5YO and so far no signs of it. Although, whenever she gets diarhea, I totally freak out and worry, like today.

My mom had colitis, too, and was diagnosed about the time that I was diagnosed with it.  She was in her mid 40's, I was in my mid 20's, and I am the youngest of 3 boys and the only one with an IBD.

So far, none of my 3 children have been diagnosed with an IBD.  My sons are 30 and 27 and I have a 17 year old daughter.

I have 2 kids, one almost 2, and the other 4, and so far so good.  Like Trixy said, my wife and I worry every time one of them has diarrhea.  Guess there's no sense it worrying too much...stress is never good for us.  It it hereditary of course...I have 2 cousins with Crohn's.  We can only hope and pray our children don't get it, at a young age especially.  Can't imagine a 2 year old having to deal with UC, hard enough as a 31 year old.

My mother had Crohns and technically was never diagnosed with it until her autopsy but she was 38 when she died. I am not sure how long she had it before she passed away though. I was diagnosed at 22 - my children are 16 and 12. My 12 year old is already showing signs of intestinal problems but she doesn't have UC yet. I am praying that she doesn't but if it happens then it happens. It would break my heart in two but at least I can offer her sympathy, empathy and knowledge from my own experiences.

I thought that was wierd that you guys were all the younger too. I am the oldest of only two kids and so far we don't think my brother has it. My kids are still young and I too fear every loose stool. My daughter, the oldest at almost 5, has a random intestinal issue. The only thing I can pin down is she can't eat McD's, but other than that it's not often enough to worry about right now. She will sit in there FOREVER though, and I don't know if it means she's having problems...or if she just sits in there like her dad (b/c he's a guy) and I (b/c my UC has been active for so many months now) do. It's hard to tell at this age b/c they mirror so much of what we do.

my great grandma had coliitis, at least that they calledit, not sure she was ever actually diagnosed with that, but she had serious stomach problems, and my Dad also, not nearly as bad as UC, but he just gets these random attacks of stomach cramps and nausea and D. Anyway, when i was alittle baby i had problems for a while, and they did all kinds of tests, and found no problems. Then until i got to be 22 i had no problems, then it started full on!
my son is 2 and like everyone said, any time something happens i freak! we have discovered that if he has too much dairy he gets loose poo, and if that goes on too long, he gets mucous and blood. I pray that it is not UC, Dr thinks it is from the dairy, so we just cut back and he is fine. but i don't know how I would live with myself if i gave him this horrible disease. The one thing i do know, is that if I find out he has it, his colon is coming out and quick, i won't let him suffer like i did, but until then i just pray he won't get it
