Back pain w/ Pancolitis? Causing Rectal Pain?

hey all again,


I was just wonder, if anyone has had back pain with pancolitis, and if it could cause rectal pain?

Going to do a colosconpy (sp) this weds to confirm more.







dx- pancolitis 10/03/07

asacol 400 mg 4 pills a day

xanax .25 2 pills a day

I have low back pain and rectal pressure/pain when I'm flaring, even though my UC is just on the left side. I attribute it to the inflammation. The colon swells and pulls on the membranes that anchor it in place, and I think this is what causes the back pain. Back pain is one of my first warnings that I need to mend my ways because I may be starting to have a flare. The rectal pain I think is just from the inflammation. That's the first place to flare and the last place to heal. If you aren't using any rectal meds, you may want to ask your doctor about mesalamine enemas to help with the rectal inflammation.

My physical therapist showed me how to relieve the back pain, so you might consider asking your doc for a PT order for evaluation.

4M2K....The rectum will be the worst place for inflammation...regardless how high it extends to. Remember...UC starts at the rectum...it will always be inflamed during a flare.

So...rectal meds will help get the inflammation down. The'yre a MUST for UCers.

You're also on a very low dosage of Asacol...it should be upped at least to 6 or 8 daily. They can be taken twice daily..so if you can't fit in more than that, it's helpful to take them times when you won't have a tendency to forget (such as mid day).

You could have the above mentioned of hemorrhoids or a fissure....but with what you're describing..it's typical of flaring. Although...nothing like adding more to an already ailing butt.
