Will Prednisone also cause tooth problems/decay?

I am in my mid 40's, was on 3 different steroids on and off for almost a year my last flare. My teeth were chipping, breaking, cracking... I finally had ALL of my upper teeth removed, and now I will have a beautiful white smile.

My bones on the other hand, are a hot mess. I have Osteopenia.

Steroids are bad, The cure is surely worse than the ill-

I have been taking high doses of prednisone for colitis on and off for nearly 40 years (as much as 180mg/day). I just had a dental appointment yesterday and had two caps installed along with two cavities filled. This is the second time that I have had this done. 2+ hours in the chair.

I have no problems with teeth sensitivity as even though the roots are still living (no root canals necessary), they no longer send a pain signal. All of the work above was done without anesthetic.

I do not have dry mouth, I still have tarter so my pH is good and my hygienist says that my oral hygiene is good as there is no plaque.

At this point, I do not know if the problem is prednisone and/or heredity.

BTW, if you are having a colitis bleeding episode, nicotine patches (I put them on my thighs, and am not afraid to cut them in half) or nicotine gum will stop the bleeding almost instantaneously.

Hi, I've had Lupus or many years and have taken Prednisone for many years, Need to know whether medicare will cover getting dentures side my tooth decay seems to be a side effect o the med I take, besides Pred, I also take Norco, Morphine< Ambien, Linsipril, and others.

I avoid this problem with the following mineral stack I take each day:
5mg boron
400mg magnesium (divided into two doses of 200mg)
Zinc 25mg
D3 liquid 5000IU daily

I also take DHEA 25mg and pregnenlone 50mg while I'm on prednisone. Prednisone stops DHEA and pregnenolone production which is partly why bones decay.

I took this stack 3 years in a row AFTER stopping prednisone and regained all the bone mass I lost on DEXA scans within 8-9 months. However, I flared again and I ended up on prednisone so I lost it all again.

This year, I started taking all these DURING prednisone 40mg and after 4 months I show no losses. My teeth have also remineralized and I've lost no body mass. This is the first time ever prednisone has not utterly destroyed my body. I look like a normal human being. I could stay on prednisone indefinitely if I wanted to with this stack -- but who would want to?

It's unfortunate that doctors don't know this stuff. They just tell everyone to take X amount of calcium to prevent bone loss. Calcium alone does nothing. I found boron to be highly instrumental. It makes the body retain calcium and magnesium (there are studies on this, use google) and it also tells them where to go.
