When bleeding doesn't stop

Hey there - I'm SO glad you have found you all.  Thanks for all your posts and information for us newbies!  I was diagnosed with proctitis in March and the day after starting Colazol and Canasta I stopped bleeding.  about eight weeks ago the bleeding started again.  The only symptom - no diarrhea, cramps, etc.  My doctor started me on Canasta at night, then two weeks later when that hadn't helped, Mesalamine (?) enemas every night for two weeks and then every other night for two weeks.  Still was bleeding after the two weeks of every night, so he had me add Canasta back in every morning.  Now I'm done with the enemas and still bleeding.  He wants to give it one more week of doing both and then if bleeding hasn't stopped, do another colonoscopy.  That has me a little worried.  From you-all's experience, what are some of the possible things they could find if I haven't stopped bleeding in a week (that will be over two months of bleeding every time I go to the bathroom - all different colors of red - I'm starting to feel like the woman in the bible who bled for seven years!)  Feeling a little nervous tonight about the possibilities.....

i've been bleeding for over a year.. every time i go to the toilet which has been like 13-20+ times a day.
there have been a few weeks here and there where the bleeding stopped, but thats it.

except for those very few times, every day all the time.. there is blood.
buti also have diarrhea and cramps too, so it might be a different story for me.
im still bleeding.. cant get it under control.

The healing process can take awhile.  It took 1 year for me to figure out my meds and get things under control.  Keep in mind that Rowasa  (mesalamine) is a maintenance drug and should be used continually along with the Colazal.  If I completely stop using either one, my symptoms return.  I would keep trying and give it a lot more time before jumping to a stronger med.  Good Luck!

I take 9 colazal a day when flaring and 6/day while in remission. You may want to ask your GI if you can up the Colazal.

You could also ask your doctor about steroid enemas, which can get bleeding under control (in my experience) faster than the Canasa or the Rowasa enemas.

I would want to give that a try before going through another c-scope. At least a couple weeks anyway to see if there's something that can get it under control. Generally with Cortifoam (which is like the steroid enema but in foam form. It's great!) I can get bleeding under control in about a week. I could never do that with Rowasa.

By the way, you got a smile out of me with your typo of "Canasta" instead of "Canasa". I'd prefer to learn to play the game of canasta than have to use Canasa, but I doubt that canasta is going to help my bum! lol
