I have read that psoriasis can also occur with uc. I think I am getting it on the top part of both of my hands. Can anyone help me with this as to how to treat it. It feels like a very bad sun burn.

psoriasis and UC are related yes. i have psoraisis, but i have had it since i was little and way before i ever had UC.
the best thing, IMO (in my opinion) is cocoa butter lotion and also to take milk thistle capsules for the liver. that is where the psoraisis comes from. liver issues.
i've had psoraisis issues since 5th grade and im 31 now. the cocoa butter thing works the best and doesnt cost you your first born. i have tried every and all types of spendy lotions and miracle creams. nah. dont work. good old natural cocoa butter is the best. keep yourself moisturized. also, psoraisis gets worse in wintertime i noticed and when your sick or stressed.
the topical medicines from the doctor are cortico-steroids usually and they do work temporarily. usually you become immune to them before they fix anything. plus that is the "band-aid" way of treating it.
are you sure it is psoraisis and not eczema? cuz psoriasis usually doesnt hurt really. eczema on the other hand is itchy and does hurt.
psoraisis is red and scaly. it comes in big patches or in little dots.
what does it look like?

I am haveing an issue with psoraisis right now also, it is a first for me. I have a spot about
the size of a quarter that was really red and crusty looking and several small dots on the same shoulder. I was putting first aid cream on it and it did at least take the crusty part off now it is just red and kind of bumped up. I will try the cocoa butter thanks. should I see a doctor for it, are will it heal on its own. Its always something with UC. stop one thing and something else pops up.

u can see a doctor to confirm if you want.. but they will just say, "you have psoraisis, here is a script
for some cream"...
you might as well just try the cocoa butter lotion and see if it works for you. use it lots. and try the milk thistle if you can. i found that it works really well on clearing up any skin problems... might take a few weeks, but its not bad for you either way, so it can't hurt.
(ps-i am in no way suggesting that seeing a doctor is not a good idea. its up to you.. this is just from my experience)

I have psorasis along my hair line but luckily I haven't had any trouble with it since starting 6mp. There is also an OTC lotion you can use that is made for psorasis. When I use this, it takes care of the scaling and raised redness within a couple days. It stings though if you put it on if you've been picking at the scales (yes - I'm guilty of doing that!)

I was at a seminar at work a couple of years ago and the speaker was a scientist who studied hemp. He said that hemp creams were really good for psoriasis due to their high essential fatty acid content. I bought some hemp body butter at the Body Shop for my mom, who has psoriasis and she finds that it works great.

I developed a small spot of psoriasis a couple of years after my UC was diagnosed. Don't know if there was a cause-effect thing going on, but it went away when I started on Remicade and hasn't come back so far.

Psoarasis is thought to be an auto-immune condition - you suppress the immune system, your symptoms lessen. Many doctors are now prescribing some sort of immune suppressor to help deal with widespread psoarasis. That can be why some of us that are on either Imuran/6mp/Remi or Pred notice our psoarasis lessening. Another great benefit to these meds I think!

Thanks steph, I will give it a try. I really hate going to the doctors if I dont have to.
