Im fine as long as im on prenisolone but when I lower the dose the disease get worse. Last time I was on 9 pills of asacol and 100mg imuran but nothinng was different from when I only took 4 asacol (or even none) and got worse. Now they let me try pred-enema (clysma?) cause the coloscopy showed the iflammation was at rectum and it gave the same effect as pills. Can you take these as long as you want to or are there any risks?

An other question I have is if I really should be on imuran and asacol when I dont notice any positive effect from them? The best time for me since I got this disease was year when I didnt take any pill at all but that's just my experince. As we all react diffrent to all medications and treatment why should'nt I get off asacol and imuran when I only feel that prednisolone helps?

I use cortifoam which is also a steroid foam enema...I've personally been on them for as long a yr before tappering off them (at specifically one dose at night before bed only)...they don't react the same as taking oral pred regarding side effects because not near enough gets released into your bloodstream as is does when taking oral pred...feel comfortable taking the enema I'm sure you'll likely notice significant improvements for your proctitis (inflammation of the rectom).

It can take up to 6 months for either asacol or imuran to kick in and so long as you're not allergic or have any serious problems with them, you may find either of them to help bring you out of a current flare and so long as you continue taking them (as they are both considered maintenance drugs) even while in remission then that's the goal to staying out of a flare...of course there are no guarantees but either are suppose to be a huge help in staying in remission.

In my own personal experiance, pred was great until its effectiveness wore off now it has no benefit for me.

Did you take prednisolone enemas or pills? And how long did it take before they didnt have any effect? I've taken pred pills for one year now in periods and they have always had the same effect. And now when I started on enemas instead they worked as good as pills. How often does prednisolone become effectless because you used it too much and why?

I've taken both...they generally both work fairly quickly although the pills work faster than the enemas because so much is released into your systems via pills.

Pred can just lose it's effectiveness is all, doesn't necessarily happen to everyone but it happend to me.
