 Can a stent be unblocked. I have 3 stents and one of them are blocked. I keep ending up in te ER with chest pain and shortness of breath. I am being told there is nothing that can be done. This amazing to me that they cant do open heart surgery and other surgeries. I was just in the hospital and was sent down for a stress test. I was not told that I would have to have a MRI or CAT scan before hand. I'm clostofobia and have a hard time going in those machines but I tried anyway. I stayed in ther until I could not breath. At that point I ask to be taken out. They sent me back to my room The Doctor came in and said I refused to take the test and I could just go home and she released me from the hospital.

Hello and welcome. Wondering if you saw the same Dr. that placed you stents ? If you are restenosing (reclosing of stent) please consider seeing another Cardiologist as something does not sound right with the treatment you received.



A stent is a stainless steel coil inserted into a coronary artery to help hold it open. I have heard that MRIs are sometimes contraindicated with a stent in place unless part the body being scanned is removed from the area of the stent. jUST MY 2 CENTS worth tonight.

I had a stint put in my LAD and within 6 months I fail the stress test.  The doctor had me in the hospital for another ango.  They thought the unthinkable, that my stint failed. Or my stint was block, and maybe having to put another one in behind it might help me.

When it was over I ask the doctor what did they find.  They told me nothing.  So I think that going back in might of help whatever the problem could of been resoved it self.   I never really knew why?

So some doctors do believe sometimes that a stint might be bad.  Just how many I don't know?

Stents can have MRI if they've been in place long enough and are the right material. You should carry a card with that info.

You can have a relaxing drug before an MRI if you are claustrophobic. They should have asked you beforehand.

Stents can be reopened or restented, but that my depend on the type and location.

My opinion of stress tests is that if you can walk to the center where it's being done, it's not going to show anything and are a waste of radiation. I passed a couple of them, one just before a heart attack, another when an angioplasty was closing back up and needed to be stented. I couldn't walk across a parking lot but passed the test.

I'd get another opinion. See an interventional cardiologist. The good ones can do an angioplasty or stent and close the artery with a stitch, leaving no bleeding of hematoma.

My father inlaw has stints a couple just put in a month or so ago and a few from over 10 years ago he also had a tipple bypass then. The doctors looked at the old ones and they were fine just had to add additional ones. I would think that because of this they last a long time but I'm sure that they can also get blocked. Why else would they have looked at them? Anyways for the most part he is fine but takes many meds.
