Hi I am a 32 year old male just diagnosed with this condition, i got sick in late June with chest pain, shortness of breath, fluid detention I'm my legs, ankles, feet, thighs, pleural effusions.around my lungs, and just a little fluid around my heart but doctors have said there is not enough there to be concerned about. I life in the valley in California and i am a disabled veteran
So i am being treated at the Va hospital in Palo alto, ca. I have an appointment with the surgeons on the fifth of September. I have read online that this surgery is very risky and painful and have really bad anxiety right now. I currently feel a lot better than i did i am on diuretics , anti-inflammatory meds. I would really appreciate anyone that has went through this surgery that is willing to talk to me to do so i am petrified of this surgery also does anyone know if the cardiac surgeons at the Va in Palo alto ca are any good. Welcome to the forum. I am not the regular moderator, but wanted to welcome you. It is not wise to post your email addy on this forum. Most people just put it in their profile so that only members can see it. You are opening yourself up to a lot of spam. But I will leave it up to you if you want to leave it and take the risk.

I am not regularly from this forum so I am not much help with matters of the heart. But hope that things work out for you and that you feel better soon. Know that everybody here cares. Please do keep posting, you will probably get replies tomorrow as the weekends are kind of slow here.

My husband had this surgery in April. I am a RN. I will gladly answer any questions.

hi, glad i found this place, my hubby that is 44 just was told from docs he has this, they stumbled on it from labs and some minor complaints back in july, 2012, its now sept, 2012, wow what a month or so has made, he does not seem to be doing as well as he was, not sure if its the condition or just knowing or both, he is healthy other then this, the cause is unknown at this time, they belive its from a past viral. did chest x ray, mri, echo, ecg, he has 8mm thick pericadium with calcium, so final was constictive pericarditis, docs put him on fliud restriction of 50 ozs and limits sodium to 2 per day, water pills at 20 mg if seeing a 3 lb increase. he is in heart failure due to this condition, flucuates between stage one and stage two, im not sure how long they wait till the surgery but doctors said he most likely will have to have one, which is taking all the pericadium off. we were told, this would only happen at mayo or clevland clinic. i must admit its very scary to be dealing with this, hubby wants to be in denial and im trying to make sure he is ok, so makes it rather hard. i asked the cardio if im to watch for anything or any restrictions, he said no...... im confused.... it seems like a serious thing to have, but yet im not to watch for anything?????? so when he acts odd or i notice things im not sure what im to do, since i got a hubby that hides his issues :/ makes me even more nervous...... if anyone has any info on this highly confusing condition.... id love to hear it... ive read alot on the net, classic cases.... but it dont seem like a condition that would be the same for eveyone.... im very sad to read its a painfull recovery from the surgery... but im not shocked. so hope to read post tomorrow, that you for your time .... :)
