Jens,Welcome to HealingWell and I am so glad you found us. To the best of my knowledge, there is no surgery that can successfully re-open a carotid artery once it is 100% blocked. The brain will get blood from the other 2 arteries ( the vertebral arteries), but you will be at increased risk for having a stroke and will need to control your risk factors.
Please remember I am not a Dr. At this time your Dr. should be giving you information on how to decrease the risk factors you can control.

I am truly sorry that your diagonosising Dr. told you that you are a "walking corpse" as that strikes me as a bit insensitive. I wish you many happy days ahead and remember to take care of you. Be your own best advocate.
