blocked corotid arteries

I have both carotid arteries 100% blocked and minor blockage on the left artery at the back of the neck. The specialist is not encouraging. She says I am a walking corpse looking for a spot to lie down. I feel healthy but have been restricted in activities by virtue of being placed in a palliative care program.

any words of encouragement - up to the end of April, I was walking 2 hours a day. Now I am not allowed to walk any distance at all as the specialist is adamant I could drop anywhere.

I don't know what feeling better would be like as I am void of symptoms and feel as good as 20 years ago Thank you for the good wishes. Happy thoughts are always appreciated.

Welcome to HealingWell and I am so glad you found us.  To the best of my knowledge, there is no surgery that can successfully re-open a carotid artery once it is 100% blocked. The brain will get blood from the other 2 arteries ( the vertebral arteries), but you will be at increased risk for having a stroke and will need to control your risk factors.

Please remember I am not a Dr.  At this time your Dr. should be giving you information on how to decrease the risk factors you can control.

I hope you do talk with a Dr. who can guide on what things you should personally do to live as healthy as you can.

I am truly sorry that your diagonosising  Dr. told you that you are a "walking corpse" as that strikes me as a bit insensitive.  I wish you many happy days ahead and remember to take care of you.  Be your own best advocate.

Your info is consistent with the words of the neurologist that put me on the palliative care.

Guess I was hoping she could be other than totally up to date.

I should add in regards to the doc being insensitive. I deserved the comment as a result of my own stupidity.

She asked if there was anything she could do to make this easier to accept such as talking with my wife and children. I responded by suggesting she prescribe cyanide for me. Then came her response of already being a walking corpse.

I have only respect and affection for this lady who tried so hard ro be gentle and helpful
