Hello everyone.

Does anyone else have a PFO? (patent foramen ovale - hole in heart).  I have recently been found to have one.

WHat exaclty does this mean to my lifestyle?  Can this make you feel ill?  ANythin I shoul dbe aware of?

I have also been suffering from severe dizziness for the past year.

I am wondering if the two are connected?  Does anyone have any advice please?

Im getting pretty desperate!  ......

I just bumped up another thread pertaining to PFO's and thought this might be a good one for you to read!

 

I'm sorry you seem to be having such a full plate lately, but hopefully you'll get some answers and things will fall into place for you.

 

Have you asked your Dr. for more info re this??  That's always the best starting place with anything that you have questions with-sometimes even the Dr.'s nurse makes a great ally to have!

           Im 31 and doctors have discovered i have a PFO, i had a mild stroke in Jan and since then i have blackouts which sometimes i am aware are coming by palpitations & feeling light headed, and sometimes get no warning what so ever. Cardiologist does not know why these blackouts are happening but they are going to close the hole in heart as i have had episodes of numbness, and they are hoping blackouts will stop.

Request to see a cardiologist for them to do some tests with a loop recorder ( heart minitor) to find out what is going on with the heart when having dizzy spells.

Thanks so much for offering you're support and info!  I'm sorry to hear that you're having these blackouts and I'm hoping right along with you that this surgery will help that out as well!!

 

You mention you had a mild stroke in Jan.?  Was this from the PFO?  Do you have any lasting effects from this stroke?

 Hi Teri,

          Thankyou for your reply, my Tia was due to my PFO, and to prevent any more from happening they are going to close the hole, which i am so glad about. I was lucky to have all movement come back in my left side after mild stroke.

I had a mild stroke as well, Bee, and I guess we were both pretty lucky! Mine affected my left side, too and now the only thing it left me with was some mild seizures and some migraines.

I wish you all the best with your upcoming surgery!!-when will it be?!

Please keep us posted on that, Bee!! My bags are always packed and ready to go, just to hold your hand or say a few kind, hopeful words-I fit into purses, or in pockets, though big purses are more comfortable! :) I travel light...though, I do have a prior surgical commitment happening in the next couple of weeks, one of our other members is having a pericardiectomy at the Cleveland Hospital then!

Yes, I see you questioning the "mild" stroke? That's what it was called. A friend of mine has a husband who also had a 'mild' stroke about the same time and he lost all right sided movement and when he did get it back, it still shows when he's tired-he limps.
