A-fib in 20's

Hi,

A doctor thinks he detected afib in me the other day while at a routine appointment. I was having an irregular heartbeat which is something that I've had often for the past several years along with diziness, fainting, weakness in my limbs, etc. (since contracting Lyme). I was referred to a cardiologist. What will the cardiologist do at the appointment? I have no info about what to expect. I'm in my mid 20's, female, slightly underweight and no history of smoking, drinking or poor diet.

The cardiologist will ask about your health history, family health history, current symptoms. He will most likely listen to your heart, do an EKG. If he suspects anything he will do an echo which is like a sonogram looking at your heart. He may want to put you on a holter monitor. Treatment will depend on his findings. I see a cardiologist because I have an arryrhmia which occur in the form of frequent pvcs After all these tests I am now on an event monitor because the 24 hour holter monitor didn't really give an accurate depiction of what occurs with my heart on regular basis.
