Hey this is worth loking into and  here in Fla we got the alligator farm in st Augustine and one in Bush Gardens too makes you wonder. Gosh I guess The University of Forida Gators are good for something? (the football team) LOl But really this is a great article.

It's interesting Teri, just before I saw this I had just finished reading an article in National Geographic about snake venoms being investigated for use in drugs. Different venoms can cause almost instantaneous blood thinning or clotting.

It does make you wonder who thinks this stuff up!!

And igana (sp?) spit will be used to treat diabetes. i read this in Reader's digest.

Maybe yu can find the link to this since diabetes and Heart disease are kissing cousins. Sounds promising my daughter-in-love is  an insulin dependent diabetic  54 units NPH in Am and then 18 reg in afternoon and 20 in evening and then 16 NPH before bedtime. Sounds very interersting what month was the article in.

Here's a link to the "lizard spit", I read about this last year while doing some research and I wondered then the same thing confused who confused decides that while walking through the canals of Florida, or the deserts of the US looking at lizards...hmmm, I wonder if??? tongue

I also read about the lizard spit this year. Even though the thought of lizard spit is not all that exciting, if it can help I guess I'm down for that. Grins. Kathy

I have also heard about bat saliva and leeches  oh that igives me the hibbie gibbies ands sends chills up my spin  imaagine wakeing up and seeing a leech on You OMG! or saying they  are using lizard spit, crocidle blood or bat saliva  oh well  might try it and it might work great.I might get it first at a teaching hospitial where my cardio is  though? gives me somthing to ask my cardio when I go back in Oct.

Heidi, how about horse's urine? I know they use that for some type of medication because I saw it on Animal Planet. LOL. Oh, it has to be pregnant mare urine by the way.

The "lizard spit" treatment for diabetes is actually called Byetta. It's indication is for type 2 diabetes, and it is manufactured by Amylin Pharmaceuticals, in San Diego. It is a peptide therapeutic. I'm in this biz so I know about it :) Let me know if you need more info.

Also, re from the above...the urine from a pregnant mare helps produce estrogen tablets, called Premarin for women! :)

Teri, my boss and I actually had a conversation about the crocodile blood thing today! They are thinking about it for AIDS therapeutics. I didn't read the article link you posted, but he told me today it is really amazing that crocodiles get into such nasty fights with eachother, bloody and open wounds, and swim in swampy water, and manage to avoid suffering from blood borne disease. So there has got to be something special about their blood. How cool!
