How Did You Find Your Cardiologist?!

You go to your Primary Care Physician (PCP) and you've been told you need to see a cardiologist.  Sometimes your Dr. will recommend one, but what happens if you don't 'click'?!  Where would you go from there....?

to find a good cardiologist - suggestions:

1) do you have a doctor you really admire (in another field)?  if so ask that one for a recommendation.  i got my cardiologist's name from my oncologist, that i love and have been with for 12 years.

2) resource with people at work or friends who might have similar problems.  ask the doc's office lots of questions - the ones that are important to you, including:  where was the doctor trained?  how many procedures (that you might have) has he/she done?  what is his/her success rate with that particular procedure?, do you enjoy that persons "manner," how long do you have to wait in the waiting room and/or wait for a return phone call?, does the doctor have privileges at the hospital you want to use? 

INTERVIEW your docs.  don't be bullied into feeling you have to take the first one you might be sent to.  be pleasant and polite but be ready to go on to another doc if the first one just isn't right for you.  you have to be willing to be persistant!

when my PCP's Physicans Assistant names not  spoken here by me for he is on my  _________ list top middle and bottom misdiagnosed my second silent heart atack as  back pain/strain . I changed my PCp and asked her who was a good cardio she told me we met  and he knew about my NF too whichmade an impression on me and then we talked heart disease and he did a battery of tests etc... and went from their but I found the one I like and click with by my PCP and she also  to my Thyroid doctor too. Now for my other PCP and his PA  now way I wouldnot even send my dog to them.   But I like him. Yes check with friends

do a search on yuor computer of the hospital you go to

ask your PCP

schedaual one visit explain your heart problems and if they donot understand your heart problems go to other one.

But so far since I left thePCP that misdianosed me and got these  4 doctors I am quite happy you do it their way or the highway especially with the  heart Doc.

I sort of found my first cardiologist by necessity after already having my Heart Attack, but the one that I have now, is the greatest and I found him through a little research and watching him with other patients, along with asking other people - he's from the Heart Hospital of Austin and they've been the ones keeping me pretty much 'ticking'. :)
