Recently went to the ER on the eighth because I thought I was having a heart attack. This was on 7/08 at 3:00am, it woke me up out of a dead sleep! My chest hurt horribly, my palms were sweaty, my whole left side of my body was numb and it smelt like something was burning. The ambulance took me to the hospital where they ran some basic blood work and did two EKG's.
I was told that my EKG's were abnormal and that I would be admitted for ''observation''. I received an echo, an ultrasound and more cardiac blood work done while I was admitted.
When the doctor finally came in he took one look at me and I knew right then and there he would be of no help. I'm only 21 years old and weigh about
109lbs. He gave me that look that says, ''let's get this over with''.
He said my EKG's were both normal (even though I had been told they were not), then proceeded to tell me it was anxiety, stress, panic attacks, etc. I explained that I have neither of those. He then threw the, ''you're too young to have a heart attack'' line I'm used to hearing.
I left angry. My chest pain has grown to be almost intolerable these past months but now it's worse. I should have lashed back at him and said I was too young for any of the diseases I struggle with, but he wasn't worth it.
I picked up my medical records to day and found that I have Sinus Arrhythmia and that my EKG showed ''Trace Mitral Regurgitation'' along with ''Mild Tricuspid Regurgitation''.
Now, I'm no doctor but I am medically smart so to speak and I know that Sinus Rhythm is usually present when MR is ACUTE because the atria have not had time to stretch and remodel. And ACUTE MR normally requires emergency mitral valve repair or replacement with concomitant coronary revascularization as necessary. I have n appointment with my cardiologist next Wednesday on 7/23 but I was wondering if anyone has had this or knows more about
this so I'm not freaking out. Thank you!
