Not sure if anyone can help me confused

I'm 16 years old, and they discovered a hole in my heart two years ago, and fixed it March 8, 2010 with an amplatzer device (2cm). I had migraines for 2 weeks after (which are apparently normal) but then I started to feel heart palpitations, and weird feelings in my heart about 2 months after. Then I started to get a dull pain in my chest and its been happening at least twice a week ever since. Even without exercise! The doctors don't know what to do about it, it's pretty concerning. I just wanted to know if there's anyone else who's in the same situation?

Welcome to HealingWell and I am so glad you found us.  I don't have an answer for you but hopefully some of our members will have some input.

I would guess that you have talked with your parents re your problems.  Have you seen a second cardiologist to recieve another opinion on why your having the symptoms ?

I understand your fear and concern over these symptoms and I believe you have a right to be worried but try not to let anxiety take over and just be in the moment.

It is important to make sure your parents and your doctors know the pains have been occurring regularly over a long period of time since you had the device implanted. Sometimes the docs will give you a portable heart monitor to wear for a few days, it records your heart waveforms so they can see if anything strange is happening.

I have had the amplatzer for 6 months, installed to close a PFO. I have not had any pains from it, the only sensation I have had was the kind of pressure-like sensation that some Amplatzer patients have described as a "stuck chicken bone", i.e. something stuck halfway down when they swallow. For me it felt similar, but more like the pressure that you feel if you burp and it gets "stuck" halfway out. That happened during and shortly after the procedure, the rest of the time I have not had any internal pains or sensations.

hello :-) I have had an ASD closed quite a large one 33mm, usually a lot of people after closure do tend to get palpitations and this is can be the heart settling down...... I have now spoken to hundreds of people with ASD closures and some say that the palpations last for a few weeks to a few months, some after closure do not have any symptoms at all. the good news is that you are in the younger age group :-)
however this needs to be discussed with your cardiologist, when do you next see them? The chances are it is as I have said that as you are in the younger age group your heart is probably settling down .... but I am not a doctor ....... just some one who has talked to loads of people :-) :-) so please talk to your cardiologist x

Hi there.

I had an ASD closure two weeks ago with a 2.6cm device. I had a good recovery initially but I have now started to experience aura migraines and palpitations, especially when I lie down on my side. I was therefore pleased to find that this seems to be a common occurence on this forum. Did you palpitations and discomfort ease up given time?

I was also wondering how people got on with the blood thinning drugs following the proceedure? I didn't respond well to the combination of 75mg plavix and
75mg aspirin. I was covered in bruises without any contact and my GP said I had substantial bleeding in my lower back. I have now been told to cut out the plavix and stick to 75mg of aspirin daily. I am hoping this is sufficient to prevent clots as numbers of this forum seem to be on much higher doses of medication fron some of the posts I have read.

I would also be grateful to hear how long it took for people to feel back to normal after the closure? My cardiologist said I could be back to normal in 3 or 4 days, even said I could be back in the gym. However, I am still off work 2 weeks later feeling very run down and have aches and pains. I also experienced swollen legs and abdomen. My GP thinks this is due to a concurrent infection as my White blood cell count is slightly raised and I have swollen glands and slightly inflamed tonsils. Have been advised to rest further but getting a bit fed up that I am not feeling up to getting on with life and wondering how long this might go on.

I would love to hear how any of you got on since your procedure. It has already helped to hear that others have gone through the same procedure and to know i am not alone.

I am 38 yrs old and I had an ASD closure two years ago with a 3.2 cm device .
It took a whole for my body to get used to , the first week I experienced really bad palpitations , and then 2 months after the migraines started with the aura , sometimes twice a day .
I only took plavix for 3 months and then I continued on aspirin till now , but due to my headaches I take 20 mg of inderal every morning wich had help me heaps and I haven't had a migraine for months .
I know stared to feel normal again and to face the fear I had because I was always thinking that I have a device in my heart . I started the gym 12 weeks ago and face the fear of exercising and raising my heart to even 180 !
I never run before as before my procedure every time I attempted exercising I used to feel sick , now that I tried to run and I stared exercising I feel new ! I can tell the amp later is working fine and that my cardiologist was right when he said to me , go out there and live a normal life !
I am wondering how everyone else is feeling abstinence goes by etc!
It is so nice to read and see that it is normal to feel abut anxious ,headaches etc !!!'

Helli everyone,

I had my asd closure 2 1/2 months ago via the amplazter device and feel horrible. Everything I'm reading seems to be what I'm experiecing..I have never had migraines in my life and 2 weeks after my surgery I had a massive one.. I am getting them a couple.times a month but what's really bothering me is the feeling of wanting to faint all the time, dizziness, fatigued, lower back and general muscle pain throughout my body..i also am still having palputations and this weird fluttering in the chest but.its usually at noght time only.. I am currently on asiprin 75 and Plavix..which i feel ok on except severe brusing.. just want to know how long is this going to last.. I wish I was told some of these side effects prior to doing surgery becasue I am so depressed becasue I feel aweful and not myself.
