Hello, I am a 48 y.o. male...I am having a heart cath done this 30th of April and I am scared to death...they found 3 places, front , back, and side which appear blocked...from treadmill stress test and echo...what keeps the plaque from breaking loose if I need a stint or a balloon? In my paperwork it says worse case I could stroke or and have heartattack...I have a fatty enlarged liver and can no longer take the cholesterol meds, I am now insulin and Metformin dependant...found that out a month ago, I have high blood pressure, been on meds for years and also have bi-polar with severe depression, cant even get out of bed a lot of days...I am 6ft. and 236 LBS. So I am overweight...I am a 100% DISABLED VET, my care has not been the greatest at my VA...Im having my cath done in Augusta Ga. at the VA there. So I throw all this out there but not really knowing why. Prayers are appreciated.

Burtrum,everything will be OK.I have had quite a few caths done with no problems.I have lost count of the number of stints I have but I think there are 6 in my heart although some of them have been bi-passed .I was 45 when I had my first MI and got my 1st stint in right coronary artery.I was about the same size then as you are now.I have lost about 55 pounds but I still end up in cath lab once a year.I also am diabetic on metformin.
You threw it out so you could get some support from people who have been there done that.The hardest part of the whole procedure is after it's over and having to keep leg still for hours.Some people have the pleasure of the cath been done through the arm but Docs say that is not an option for me.Always through the groin.if you are lucky you will have a good looking nurse shaving you making you smile.You should be able to watch part of it on the screens while they are going through your arteries with the catheter.

KEEP STRONG. diabetic. insulin, metformin. double by-pass. yargh, overweight. etc etc. many healing thoughts.
