How do you know that you're over-doing your walking?
I have always been a brisk walker going at least 3 miles a day to work and back and so on -- until the angina started up. I had to moderate my pace then.
I'm 64. I had a triple bypass last week. On the day of release I ran some errands (plodded really). I had pick up some stuff from my apartment, visit my mother and my son, then come out to my girlfriend's place where I'll be spending the next few weeks. I didn't drive.
I had been feeling pretty good, but the day after the errands. I was wiped out. I felt worse than I felt in the ICU.
I've read some rules of thumb. Three minutes three times a day, then five minutes ... and so on, but I'm hoping for some more qualitative wisdom from people who have walked themselves back to shape. How do you know you're overdoing it? How much can you push it?
When I go back to work on the first of June or so, I want to be able to walk the mile there and back. Does this seem a reasonable goal?
