It's very curious to me that there is so little activity here. I am active on the HW Prostate Cancer forum, and it is incredibly robust. If I post a question, I invariably get multiple responses, well thought out ones, and many in the first hour. That section f HW is a community unto itself.

Yet the Heart disease section, despite the fact that Heart Disease is one f the biggest problems in healthcare and one of the most common causes f sickness and death in the developed world p, is a place where you ask a question, and mostly it's just crickets. Silence.

No disrespect meant, but it's just curious to me, and I wonder if a discussion could be initiated as to what we can do about it.

It's not just this forum though, there is no forum for Jeart Disease that even comes close to the Prostate Cancer section on HW. That's what is so strange, all the heart forums are rather quiet

I have been giving the forum a jolt for a bit. people come on and leave. I meet and greet when I can. I want it to move, it has great potential. it needs more peeps to keep posting. I try as much as I can, just am under a lot of pressure at this time. I have said it needs a mod to push it along. no replies from admin on this.

Hey all I may be able to shed some light on your question about the lack of interest or rather participation in this forum. It has been without a moderator for some time and even before had only one so its covered by a mod who happens to stop by,see a question or in here removing spam. Without a moderator with some knowledge of the forum subject that forum tends to slow to almost nonexistent and what regular members may be lurking either don't feel"qualified" to help or just aren't supportive enough to keep it going on their own,possibly a lack of time to contribute.


Peter would like nothing more than to have this forum covered by a good mod since as you have said heart disease is a number one killer and effects billions of people. When there is a mod presence and some one to reply to posts in a timely manner you will see the forum lurkers start posting consistently.

So if one or more of you would be willing to take the forum on drop Peter an email and tell him why you would like to be a moderator for this forum.

Good luck and looking forward to seeing one of you in the mod forum soon!!!

Thanks Vickie. I would like to help, but I am just not that knowledgeable about heart disease, I had a stent out in in June and that's it.
Also have time constraints.8 hope you find someone, maybe if we keep this thread at the top ...

I have been on this forum a lot of years.I remember the days when it was the most active board.We had some very knowledgeable people that hung out here.If it is a subject I am comfortable with I will try to reply.I remember when I was searching for answers so I will try to help out a little more.My knowledge is mainly with blockages.I have had 5 MI's,CABGX4,carotid endarterectomy,FemPop Bipass and multiple stents.
I will try to be more active. cool

Thanks to you all for sticking it out and just a presence in here with a post more often than weekly helps. Heart and cardiovascular is a very broad term and covers a wide range of diseases and short of being a medical professional which we don't use,I can't imagine anyone else who would have the knowledge of all this forum covers. I think support and understanding are going to be the biggest need here,its a scary thing to find yourself with heart problems and just having a place to go to voice that fear has to be a good thing.

Occasionally, a forum is created because of a perceived need, but that forum doesn't become active. Rarely a forum is deleted if it no longer seems to be needed.

One possible response to the original query: Heart disease is very common in our society. Nearly everyone has someone among their friends and family who has dealt with it. It's also a very socially acceptable thing to talk about amongst a group. PC and some other conditions just feel more threatening or more off-putting to a lot of people, hence there's a reluctance to talk about these. This makes a forum where one can safely discuss the issues more in demand and more heavily used. As a reference, look at the numbers on the PC, Crohn's and UC forums.

This is a good point Judy. I guess its the fact that what we talk about on the PC forum, is largely almost taboo in real time, face to face conversations, very awkward at the least. So the PC Forum becoes a place where people come to talk about it

43!!!!!!!! lol. actually people, especially in Australia are having more heart problems at younger ages. I seen it on the heart ward. esp with aortic problems. here it is the single biggest killer. (besides suicide, which the coroner can not disclose) co-morbidity is the major factor, in the main. in particular diabetes, lipid and cholesterol issues, among others.
