My husband spent two days with what he thought were heart issues but there was none. On the day he was released, around 9 something the second day, they had done a echocardiogram earlier in the day, by the time we left that night they still did not have the results of the echocardiogram 8 hours later. Now we will never know the results of that. We assume it to be ok or they would have called him back in by now since it's been over a week and the doctor at the time said he would discuss the results in a followup. Well, the doctor he saw in the hospital has pawned him off on his wife for a followup and for that reason he isn't going. Does it take this long for results? Thanks.

Hi Lisa, when I have my echo's done yearly its done at my cardiologists office & my return visit with him for results always takes 2 weeks. Something your husband can do is call the medical records dept of the hospital where it was done & tell them he would like to come to the hospital & pick up a copy of that report. Because of the privacy laws he must do this himself, they will not release the records to you. Then he can either make an appt with his primary care & let him review the results with him or ask the primary care to refer him to another cardiologist. I am guessing the dr at the hospital may not have seen the report possibly, or perhaps his shift was getting ready to end for the day & this is why he was referred to the wife. If something really serious had shown up he would have been notified before being discharged.

The doctor who came in and saw my husband was a internal medicine doctor. I just felt it wouldn't take from the time they did the Echo around 1:30 to 9:37 at night to read the results. He was back in the room by 2:15 p.m.! All the other tests and bloodwork done show the findings on his my chart portal where he can read everything. That is the one thing on there he does not have.
