I'm fairly newly diagnosed so am still learning about
POTS. Can anyone recommend ways of getting sufficient daily sodium? Are electrolyte tablets a good source? There's no way I can consume 2-4 mg of daily daily in my diet, so I need to find a viable alternate means. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Celie, sorry I cannot answer your question. Since this is a fairly new dx for you, I would have hoped your dr would have discussed this with you. Can you call the drs office & speak to his nurse about
your concerns? She can at least talk to the dr on your behalf. I would be hesitate of adding anything without an ok from the dr.
Take care.

You can go straight salt tablets. If you want the added electrolytes, do those, but check the sodium content. Something like saltstick electrolytes have a good bit of sodium. Not all electrolyte tabs have the amount of sodium you'd most likely want.

Hi, are you sure you are not talking about
potassium, since it is usually a problem how to lower sodium intake because of all the salt in the processed food? My advice would be to try to take it through balanced diet, and to avoid supplements if possible.

I increased my sodium & potassium intake by drinking 12 oz of V8 every morning. I also needed it for the vegetable juice due to my GP.

Celie, here is a link to a POTS information site. (Yes, if your doctor is sure it's POTS, increased salt intake is part of the plan.)

Good luck and be sure to have your doctor guide you in this.
