tongue  well, as my little happy face shows  seems i am in good condition. my cardiologist said next to hte angiogram this test is in line as far as accuracy in blockages, and the results were good, nothing to show i am reblocking in my stents or anywhere around them.  So i am caustiously optomistic that i will be fine for a bit longer, thank God. as you all know i have not been able to tolerate the statins to keep my LDL levels down, but it appears so far that has not resulted in any serious blockages. just wanted to pass the info on.  YIPPEE

oh tomar, i just wrote this lengthy response and then pushed a wrong button and lost it..I Think, so i will wait to see if it posts, if not i will do it all over again. but in short, they put an iv in my arm then injected dye, then i got on this imaging machine for about 20 minutes and they scanned my heart from several angles. i had to wait an hour and go down for a treadmill stress test. at that time they injected me with dye again and i did the treadmill. then about an hour later i had to get back on the imaging machine and they took pics of my heart again. i was told this was the next best way to check your ateries, here again i want to say, i had to ask for the test.Just Remember Mio View, also it was necessary to fast the nite before. hope that helps

Hi Dreamgirl,  I asked the Cardiac RN at the heart center about MioView and she said she never heard of this test and perhaps it goes under another more standardize name.  She said it sounds like a stress Nuclear Stress Thallium test. Are you in the U.S.?

I am asking for more testing too.  Like a Cardiac MRI.  Bum knee will not let me exercise. eyes

eyes  ellie, i just talked to my dr. and the mio view is the same as the thallium, so what does that tell us.do you think that is a good test to determine your health, have you had it before? it was my first time.

Thanks Dream Girl.. I thought it sounded like a Dobutermine.  Dobie is a good test.  I think it is better than the adenosine Cardiolite test that so many doctors are now doing in their office.   I am surmising that this Nucelar Cardiolite done in doctor's offices bring in a lot of $$$$ for them.   I do not want another one in anyone's office ever again.  It never showed the 99% blockage in the LAD or the Blockages in the RCA.  It did show the scarring in the very distal area of the The LAD.  That was it....Nada.  Dobutermine tests are usually done in a hospital center.  Yup, I am going to ask for this....and the Cardiac MRI. I want it all.... yeah

Well, if you go with what Mayo Clinic Scottsdale thinks is the best, the type of test Dreamgirl had is what they do short of an angiogram...the first one I had done, the cardiologist said he thought there was a blockage in my LAD, probably only one. Sure enough, that's what the angiogram showed.

Now, Mayo calls it a Nuclear MIBI stress test, not a Mioview or a thallium stress test, but I think the only difference from what DreamGirl described may be the type of nuclear isotope they inject.

Gotta take a shower and head down the hill now...gotta get my new one done today and tomorrow (Mayo typically splits them across 2 days...pictures at rest Day 1, then put you on the treadmill and inject the "dye" Day 2.

Here's hopin' the chest pains last week were just gas....

p.s. I think I've mentioned this before in another thread, but Mayo doesn't always put a person on the treadmill....they always put ME on a treadmill because I haven't had any heart damage; but I've sat waiting with other ladies who have had heart attacks, and they do it the same way except instead of putting them on the treadmill they give them a drug to simulate the exertion one gets on a treadmill...I think that is dobutermine but am not sure (and no time to look it up). Otherwise, they are doing the same test, over 2 days, with pictures at rest on Day 1 and pictures after the drug on Day 2 that simulates the exertion.

:-)  thanks Connie, cannot wait to hear your results.  Elli, are you saying the test i took did not show a 99% blockage, how could that be?? Connie was right about the only differenece being what they inject into your body to see your hreat.

Sounds like the stress test (with the thallium) I have to get one every year but mine is an all day event come in at 9am and leave at 4pm. I hate the waiting!!! first thing is IV then injected with that old radioactive stuff wait an hour take pictures of my heart with that special machine that rotates around me then more waiting..... than comes the treadmill (I've got heart damage) but I always have to do the treadmill!!! on that for about 8 minutes or so until I reach my heart target rate then they inject more of that radioactive stuff while I'm walking then more pictures of the heart. I guess I get mine done all in one day!!!! yeah  

By the way when I got my 3 stents put in back in April I had just had a stress test done 3 months before and it didn't show anything. I ask my cardio about it..... why didn't it show up in the test he said it has to be over 80% or something like that before it will show anything.

Anyways when he done the heart cath he found the RCA was 75% blocked!!! sad

 Nuclear cardiolite adenosine test is called a MIBI.  (was at the vascular surgeon's today) Talk about confusion. I have had three different kinds.  The Thallium, The dobutermine and the Nuclear Adenosine Cardiolite.  YES, The Nuclear Adenosine did not show the 70% blockage in the RCA nor the 99% blockage in the LAD.  I had three Adenosines (injectible stressor) and it was only the last one that showed something BUT NOT the Blockages.  Clinton's did not show his either but unlike my case, his doctors decided to do a heart cath and this is when his blockages showed up.

I was told that all of the above different tests will show a blockage that is greater than 70%. 

The adenosine Cardiolite (MIBI) is a 6 hour test at HIS Office.  With all of these tests I had to fast 12 hours from all caffeine products.  I remember having water up to about 4 hours prior but some centers have different rules.  The thallium I had 5 years ago was a 2 day test on the threadmill and a moving tilt table.  This did not show anything either. But, in 2002, an EKG showed a heart attack that my doctors did not believe so they did nothing. eyes

When I have my stress test done I can't have caffeine or take my beta blockers (Coreg) for 24 hrs. before the test. That is a rough day without my caffeine! devil

:-)  thanks for all the replies, after reading them twice i came away feeling that it was worth the visit, but not to be too cocky about it, becasue it only would show if there were a major blockage of over 75%. so at least i am good to go for awhile.

From what my cardiologist has said, I gather that not all people with major blockages have positive nuclear stress tests (Ellie, looks like you must be one of them)...he keeps telling me not to worry because I have both classic angina AND a positive stress test...and I keep telling him, yeah, when I have a 99% blockage!! (actually, he told me when he placed the stent I had a 99% blockage; he told my family when I was being wheeled back to CCU that I had a 99.9% blockage).

Some how I don't feel reassured!!!

Just checked my voice mail, and I now have the official word from my doctor's office that my MIBI stress test last week was fine...hope they are right. Guess I'll have to learn how to distinguish cardiac pain from other kinds of chest pain...

Dreamy, I'm glad we're both "good to go" for awhile...Thanks for posting, and thanks Ellie for clarifying all these confusing tests....

:-)  that is great Connie, but after all the info on false readings how good do we feel,? i guess even if we do have some blockage, we are not blocked so kudos to us.  i was wondering if you know how long you lasted on the stress test.  i got up to a level 14 on the treadmill and lasted about 9 mins in all. does that mean anything to us? also, my heart rate came down pretty quick once i got off.  well again, at least we got good news, i think i will rest on that for awhile at least  lol
