Enlarged heart ?

Hi, I'm new here and was hoping someone may be able to help me. I'm a 31 yo female who just found out that my heart is mildly enlarged by u/s. I first started having palpatations and noticed my heart skipping beats a few weeks ago so I went in. They said that ekg looked good. I'm currently on a 30 day event monitor. My dr said they want to wait until they get the event monitor results back to determine what has caused my enlargement.
My gp did state that it was only mildly enlarged but I'm am literally worrying myself sick over this. I think I'm putting myself into anxiety attacks only making it worse but I simply can't help it. Does anyone here know anything about a mildly enlarged heart, can it really just be nothing at all and go back to its normal size?
I do have an appt with a cardiologist but its still 2 weeks away and I fear I will have myself into a mental breakdown by then.

I also have an enlarged heart, but I am not sure if it is the same issue as what you have going on, sounds something like what els posted--I have been looking for more information too...

They found mine on Echo and my results say left atrial enlargement and concentric left ventricular hypertrophy. Still not fully sure what alot of this means. I have been told that it is mild and probably a result of my high blood pressure. I take several medications and have been told not to worry to much about it, and am currently getting another opinion on all of my health issues, so we will see-I am 29 and they are unsure why I have such uncontrolled hypertension despite repeated attempts with meds...

I hope they find the cause of yours and let me know if you get anymore answers than I did--I would be curious to learn more on this topic. Els thanks for the links!!! Please, if anyone else knows anymore let me know. Thanks..

Edited to add: I keep meaning to ask the same question you had--can it eventually go back to it's normal size once the underlying cause is treated? I'll have to write it down--I always get to the doctor and forget!

mommyto3, I dont know if the heart or valves go back to normal size once they have been enlarged.  That is a great question...I dont think I have ran across that answer in anything I have read on this so far.  Writing down things to ask your doctors is a wonderful idea!  I have to do this too as I forget once I get to my appointments...it like my brain turns to mush or something

Hi Lisa, hang in there, and try not to worry.  Lisa, when you are on a 30-day event monitor, do you take it off at all.  My cardio is ordering one, and I am curious.

Hi Lisa, good luck tomorrow, and please post.  I have a new cardio appointment with a specialist in arrythmias next Friday.  They are so bad right now I want to scream.  I have had a touch of a virus, and they have been awful.  I am now getting a little dizzy with them.  Take care,

I just back a little while ago from my appt. I got some good news !! He said my heart is very very mildly enlarged and he seems to think it was caused by a virus. I have been very sick the past month with the flu then another really bad virus. He said he's not really concerned about it and my heart sounds good and strong. He did say that if my arrythmias continue he will put me on toporal xl .
I will have to have it rechecked for size in 6 months. He all but assured me it would be back to normal though. Actually he thinks a lot of my palpatations is from stress, anxiety. My husband works for goodyear and he was recently in a 3 month lay off so I have been stressed to the max.
I feel so much better. My gp had me so stressed out about this. They basically told me I had a enlarged heart and that it could be from something bad or maybe not. I have worried myself to death the past few weeks.
I hope everyone here can find a cure or help for their heart conditions. Thanks so much for your support!!
