Ischemic Changes On EKG??

Hi,

I have  been told by the nurse in my Primary care physicians office that there have been Ischemic changes in my EKG. She also stated that because of this it seems I have had a mild heart attack at one point?

Can anyone explain to me what Ischemic changes mean?

 I am having pains in my left arm and hand ,left lower jaw and left side of back that come and go. I had been in the ER this week for it and was told all tests were Ok but I should see my Cardiologist. I go to a Cardiologist for SVT and take Toprol XL for it.

Can anyone tell me what Ischemic changes in an EKG mean?

I don't mean any offense by this but I think that the nurse in your Primary Care Physician's Office should keep her mouth shut. There is no way that she is qualified to make the diagnosis that she made. It takes physicians a long time to get good at reading EKGs and I trust no one but a certified, practicing Cardiologist in this area. If your Primary Care Physician is concerned about an EKG you had in his office, he should tell you to go to the ER or your cardiologist for follow up. Since you have a cardiologist, I suggest you call their office and make an appointment for follow up just to put your mind at ease and cover all your bases. Good Luck and try not to worry until you see your cardiologist to find out what is really going on.

Hi dyky, Welcome to healing well forum, we are happy to have you join us here.  I am sorry but, I have to agree with Hopes here.  It is not the nurses place to say anything of this nature to you it is entirely up to your doctor to diagnose and explain to you any test results that have been done.  Also if I am not mistaken any real Ischemic changes that are seen on an EKG should be followed up by an ECG which is more accurate at determining these.

Thanks for the welcome and the replies.The article was helpful to me. 

The nurse was reading from a note the Dr. had written about Ishemic changes on an EKG. I asked why I wasn't told about this and she said she had no idea.

I am going to my Cardiologist today so hopefully they can give me some insight.

I am so tired of these episodes and constant pangs and pains that could all be heart related.Tired of being afraid I will drop dead any moment! It has been the SVT and now this. I just want to get to the bottom of it.

I am glad to know that your doctor left a note on this and it wasnt the nurses opinion that she was stating.  Please do post again and let us know how your appointment went today.  :-)

I agree the nurse should have mentioned to the Dr when she noted his documentation in your medical record that you may have some questions re that comment.
I am glad she did not take it upon herself to tell you this as it would surely be concerning for you.
Glad your having the follow up testing. I hope it all turns out well for you.
