Hi from newbie.  I can't quite understand what is going on.


May have had an MI on 13 Nov 06

Diagnosis after an echo in Dec 06  "conceivable she has cardiomyopathy'  Why not a firm diagnosis?

A few weeks ago, I fell very ill.  I went to my GP and told her I was sure I was in heart failure.  No action except for routine blood tests.

Desperately ill, went to a private cardio.  Had a BNP and an echo.

Diagnosis:  BPN -  330 pc/ml and the echo says "left ventricle is mildly dilated.  Borderline septal hypokinesis.  What does this means?

Trace mitral regurgitation, trace triscupid regurgiation, aorticl valve is trileaflet.  What does this means?

this private cardio suggest and angiogram to determine the cause in order to give the right meds? 

Why am I not given a firmer diagnosis and have not been put on meds yet?

Should I seek a second opinion?

Looking forward to your responses, am desperate for answers.

Hi daizy2, nice to have you here. I'm sorry I can't tell you what all that means. I think your Dr. is the only one that can tell you what it means. Just ask him exactly what it means in terms that you can understand. That's what I do with my cardiologist. I've had 8 angiograms, so I know what that is. I wish you luck and hope that all turns out well for you. Angiograms are not that bad, you heal really quickly after they are done.

Thanks for your response.  I have just been kicking a fuss  because I found out that I had Heart Failure in 2001 and was not referred for any treatment or given any meds.

I was very angry and told my GP that if she did not refer for an urgent referral to a heart failure specialist, I would call the media and report this.

An urgent referral was sent.  I should be receiving an appointment for within the next month.  We shall see.

I have since changed GP and hopefully, this new practice will work out.

I am sorry that you had to have 8 angiograms.  Were they all necessary?  Did the cardios found out anything useful?

On a lighter note, we can only hope and pray that each of us haver the strength to cope with fluctuations.

Hi daizy2, I'm glad you're being seen by a specialist, you need one. I hope you get some good news from the Dr. I can't believe I've had 8 angiograms either lol. I had quad bypass surgery in 2002 after a heart attack. Less than a year after my surgery they found a blockage behind my heart that cant be fixed, so I have alot of angina. I have been on disability for 5 years now. In 2004 a balloon was placed because I had a 90% blockage. Anyway, I seem to be doing ok now i guess. The reason for all the angigrams is to see if I have anymore blockages. When the pain gets too bad, the Dr. always wants to do another one. By the way I have Coronary Artery Disease, thats why all the blockages. You are absolutely right we have to hope and pray to cope with this illness on a daily basis. My biggest fear is heart failure, so I do feel for you , and you will be in my prayers. Good Luck to you and God Bless !

I hope you do not get heart failure. Likewise, my fear of being found to have CAD. Although I had an angioscan (64 3D scan with contrast dye) was very poor, the radiologist wrote that it was unlikely there were any blockagers. I don't agree that he can say that if the images were very poor. I still believe I have CAD somehow because of the frequent angina and have done for many years now.

Strangely, I have a friend who has also has heart failure. But he is not as ill as I am. The illness is probably due to udnerlying infection and lyme disease as thought by the private cardiologist I saw.
