Concerned about 15yr old daughter just dx w/Mitral Valve Prolapse

Hoping I can ease your mind a bit by saying Mitral Valve Prolapse is actually quite common and most people don't even know they have it throughout their lives. It is debatable whether it even causes symptoms in most people (lots of people have palpitations and no abnormal cardiac defects). I have an aortic valve prolapse and when I saw a cardiologist about it he said that it was nothing to worry about. As far as the Lyme disease goes, I do not know much about it. But MVP on its own is usually benign :) She might need to take antibiotics before dental work, and if her palpitations are terrible then she could try a beta-blocker as needed for them, although docs tend to shy away from that approach because beta-blockers can cause minor problems in people with normal heart rate/blood pressure etc. Talk to your doc and see what s/he says.

As far as interpreting the echo, I'd strongly suggest you do not attempt that. There's all sorts of weird things that are happening during echos and without significant training it seems scary to see anything moving around in there in a black-and-white image! Definitely let your doc do the interpretation of the test...that's what he's there for. Or ask him to help explain what the images mean.
