Hello.  I've had 3 confirmed strokes, fortunately no lasting effects, and it was determined I have a 2-3mm PFO with ASA.  I have failed medicine.  So, I will be getting the PFO closed.  Now it is who and what device.  I am in the western suburbs of Chicago and am intereted in any feedback on surgeons and CardioSeal vs. Gore Helex?  Thanks!

Hi pfoman. I am in the northern Chicago suburbs and also had a PFO and ASA. I had my closure done last April by Dr. Ted Feldman at Evanston Hospital. I was told he was one of the leading PFO Docs in the area. I have the gore-helex device. Unfortunately I had a large PFO and it hasn't closed yet after a year. I am having another TEE done on Wednesday to see if Dr. Feldman needs to implant a second device to finally close my hole. This is by no means an issue with Doctor Feldman or the device, just that I had a quite large hole. Dr. Feldman was the Doctor that my other Cardiologist and my Neurologist recommended.

i also hear dr. ted feldman (sp?)out of northwestern is someone of interest. i know someone who worked for him and says he is the best.

I have the Gore-Helex device for a 1cm size. Just done on friday, May 27th. Mine was done in the Los Angeles area.

oh, sorry. My point was that my surgeons told me that this implant is very bio-friendly. That it will take about a month for the cells to bond and skin to grow around it. It is made of gore-tex. I was also told it is very soft and pliable.

Hi! Not sure if I'm responding on time or too late but I had my PFO closure done at the Edward Hospital in Naperville with Dr. McKeever. He was quite good. I havent had any issues after the closure except for an allergic reaction to Plavix. I'm on aspirin 325mg and haven't been told to get off of it. My closure was done over a year ago.

Chicagoland is blessed with great Medical Centers and skillful surgeons, Loyola, Northwestern, Chicago University, Rush-Presbyterian are all tops. There are also many private hospitals that rank high in cadiovascular surgery. Make an appointment at any of them and you can't go wrong.
